Hmm Google Public Community Service, telling you what's good and bad for you!

Well, I'll be damned!

Google is now telling you what's good and what potentially might be dangerous for your computer. This may have been around for a while, but it is the first time I noticed it. I can't say that this makes me safer, but I believe that it is Google putting their nose into my business. If they can limit the sites I can see, or give me a warning before I click on a link from their results, who is there to say they will not manipulate the results as they wish? Is this the beginning of "digg style" search results, with the way StumbleUpon functions and how Google would like to get their hands on?

That means soon, people will not be able to search for what majority of the people think "wrong", as it is not always accurate what majority of people think.

I just ran into it, and wanted to share my thoughts on this.

That is so weird. At first I wondered what kind of site you were visiting and then looked and saw it was a battery store??? So my second thought was, "hmm, this is a very clever way to draw people to your battery store." - which of course was not the case. Indeed, Google does seem to be warning about this site. I took a quick visit (I figure with Firefox and a Mac I'm pretty safe from malware), and didn't see anything out of the normal. It's store, with the Verisign banner, and seems quite legit (if I were them, I'd be pretty ticked at Google).

I didn't dig through all the code and such, but I would be interested to see what the result of that might be.

big brother is watching us...

i dont like the idea of google "vetting" the results of a search. would this not contravene your american "right to free speach" or whatever its called????

google will open the way for other search engines if the internet community starts to believe that google is biasing its results . its hard enough to find non mainstream sites as it is.. if google are going to say its malware.. who knows...? also whos to say that some sites are already blocked without telling us. . . ?? how would we know ? ?

this is a huge can of worms...

It is not.
I do not have ANY google software on my computer (Except firefox!)

Please give it a try, to see if it is still active.
Go to Google, and type "Optima Red Top" now you will have results, now click on Images. First image that shows up is the image of red top from BatteriesXpress.com. Click on it, and see if Google blocks it for you.
