A very unique look through Chernobyl.

Chernobyl- A Ride through a Ghost Town.

I came across this remarkable website today and found it compelling.
The images tell their own bleak and somewhat scary story without embellishment, while the author has added a simple but effective narrative to help guide you through.

I was struck by how similar the images are to those old Atomic Bomb movies from back in the 60s and 70s.

I've been living in former East Germany for the last five years, and have come across places much like this, not far from my home. Fortunately the ones near me are not radioactive, but they are towns that were simply abandoned for various reasons over the years, mostly political.

Anyway, have a look, it's an incredible documentation of something very few people will ever see. And something of a reminder.

I always find abandoned stuff interesting. luckily, my best friend and his dad share this interest. Every once in a while, we will visit some place, not urbex-ing really, just looking around.

Want more? Read the book 'bout Armand Hammer & Chernobyl.

You won't put the book down till you're done!
Set aside an hour or two!

Same here, most people think they are eyesores. But, i think abandoned stuff has its own interesting features.

This is not simply an abandonment, Chernobyl is an example of how seriously man can get it wrong.
The devastation shown is the result of, shall we say "Operator Error", and speaks volumes about the potential destructive capabilities of the human race.
Added to that is the small matter of Governmental denial and failure to act.

Edit: I didn't post the site as a Political comment.
If I did I would have posted it in the P&R forum.
I just felt that it is a site well worth experiencing, and one that deserves a bit of attention.

Many thanks for finding this, Box. :approve: I had come across this a long while back but lost the bookmark and well, out of sight, out of mind. Very compelling and sobering.

As a side note, when the game Half-Life 2 came out, I immediately thought of the images from this site. Unfortunately, whereas HL2 is a game, Chernobyl and other sites like it are not, such as the "Black Triangle" encompassing lower Silesia in Poland, to Southern Saxony in Germany, and Northern Bohemia in the Czech Republic.

Thanks for the link, Box. There was a television special recently (past year, maybe) that mentioned Chernobyl and the residual effects - very sobering, and a reminder of the long-term destruction that can happen. And yes, I agree - this was not simple abandonment (as can happen with economic changes or as a result of mother nature), but destruction caused directly by human error, with side-effects that go on for a very, very long time.

Great link Box. Definitely a sad place. The History Channel did a 2 hour special on what would happen if mankind disappeared. They did a lot of filming at Chernobyl.

Let's hope this never happens again. :(
