I am talking about ability to just buy a dish and receiver, and start grabbing channels off the air. There are a lot of international channels out there, if you aim the dish with precision, you can get bunch of channels from all over the world.
Now, I am planning to do this, does anyone have experience/knowledge, where can I buy a setup like this, and how much would it cost?
Thanks!

I dont have it, but I know a bit about it as I like researching satellite stuff (I am a directv sub).
What you are referring to is C-Band or FTA (Free to Air) satellite. C-Band was the transmission used before the DBS systems that are now in use by Directv and Dish. There is some FTA content on DBS systems as well I believe.
Different satellites will carry different content, and depending on the receiver you have and dish, you can get some or most of that content. The dish will also have to be moved and pointed to different satellites to get the different channels. Some dishes will have motors so you can sit on your couch and grab the different satellites. Some more advanced setups will also use multiple dishes pointed to different satellites.
The biggest thing to note is that it really is kinda a hobby. Many spend a lot of time searching for other channels and such.
Another thing to note is that with some receivers you can buy mini-subscriptions to different services that will allow to get some more premium channels for very low cost.
You should take a look at some forums that have info on it, join up, and start reading :) FTA / Non-DBS Satellite Area - DBSTalk.Com is where I am a member and the site deals a lot with Directv and Dish stuff as well (a LOT of Directv stuff), but there is some info in the FTA forum as well.
Actually, I don't really care about all of those other channels, there just one channel I want to be able to watch. Probably by tuning to this, I can grab rest of the channels available at same degree.

Nope, have not heard of that site in particular, but there are lots out there.
What channel are you interested in? In looking that sat does both Ku and C-Band broadcasting, so you would want to make sure you get the apporpriate receiver for what channel you want to get (I dunno if the C-Band and Ku contain the same content or not).
Fangy - what is your contribution to this topic ?
You're just doing everything to increase your postcount, eh
I've been using FTA sat systems for over 15 years and just love it :)
Be adviced that you can get a sat card for your PC which replace a seperate sat receiver.
I have installed one from Creatix and while writing this I'm also looking at a wonderful show - which I actually record as a MP file.
I'm using Windows Media Center but that's not mandatory.
Replay can be done with almost any player even TCPMP on my X50v
Thanks Grentz. I talked to them, and their suggested setup with Hard Drive, Motorized antenna, and all those bells and whistles, it costs well over $400... Just too much for me. :(
Zanaix, that sounds like something I would do. Could you please give me some idea how you got that done? At this point, there is only this one channel which I posted above that I want to be able to watch. It is from Galaxy 25 sat. I already have a 75cm. antenna which I get for a reasonable cost. Is that all I need? Can I just run wiring to my PC and get sat receiver hardware for the computer?
I was thinking of getting out of this with no more than $200.

I have a sat receiver that connects Via USB.
I have it connected to a dish with 2 dnb thingies (hightech terminology) so that it accesses two Satellites.
Fortunately for me, these two sats are close enough together to only need one dish.
I get about 2000 channels this way.
I watch about ten of them.
Zaniax, I don't really need to record anything, just watching is fine by me.
Box, I also noticed some dishes that have two DNBs. For me, just one would be enough. Where can I buy a USB Sat receiver?

I bought mine in the local computer shop, they are readily available.
I just type USB Sat receiver into google and got plenty of options.
I'd try looking there first and working out what is best for you.
Box, obviously that's the first thing I would do, but there are so many junk sellers/products out there, I just don't want to take a chance. Could you let me know what is yours, like make/model if any?
Thank You.

It took me a while to find it because I'm not at home and couldn't remember the brand name. But after a few hundred pages of google images I got there.
I have this one.
I paid about 40 euros for it.
It works perfectly for me, auto scan, manual search, timer recording, remote control, radio, etc etc.
I would look in the shops near you and see what you can find, they come with all sorts of fancy features, but you really only near a simple receiver.
I use a usb digital receiver here in finland, so I don't need to bring the sat with me.
Almost the same setup here.
I guess that your USB stick just has one antenna input so a combiner is used for the two LNB's.
Which USB brand do you have and can you record the transmissions, Box ?
Edit: Sorry for this out-of-sequence post.
Should have been post #9
Box, thanks. It is listed at 99 Euro, I doubt I can find something like that at any store around here. The best bet for me is to find some local electronics shop, they may have a used dish and receiver which I can just buy and setup. For just one channel, the whole setup is going over my budget, which I expected to be just less than $200. With that USB setup, I still have to have a computer or use my computer through additional cables from room, plus I still need to buy the dish, which will be at least $100.
Is it difficult to aim these things? I heard they have to be dead accurate.

Some receivers have an audio frequency option which is related to the signal strength.
You can align the disc by listen to the change in the tone.
If the disc is locate away from the TV you may use a pair of wireless devices (walkies/phones) for the adjustments.
