Today one of my friends asked me "Hey, do you wanna go dumpster diving with me when the college semester is over?"

This seemed at first like an odd request, but the point he was making was that many college students now are throwing out old PC's, broken video game consoles, and other things instead of moving them back home after the semester is over. He thinks that we might be able to find some entirely fixable electronics in the dumpsters near college residence halls.

Now the college he picked out to go dumpster diving at is West Virgina University, which is about two hours from my house.

So... Is it a good idea or a bad idea?

It could be worth it if u went to the right place and didnt get in trouble for doing it.
Maybe you could find something to replace your "Compaq made in 1996".

Would be interesting to see if you do find anything useful in there. One way to look at it is if you do find something, your doing your part to save the environment, by keeping electronic stuff from going to the dump.

My laptop is Hot Shit

It's got a 150mhz Pentium w/MMX, a 13 inch screen, 32mb of ram, a 2gb HDD, and I recently upgraded from DOS 7.1 to Win95

I also get 2.5 hrs battery life

It's 2 inches thick and weighs a little over 6lbs

Why would I ever want to replace it? ;-)

I have to pick yes and no. Yes in that you can find some really awesome stuff that ppl are just gonna throw away, and that you could use and enjoy. I go D-diving myself, and get all kinds of cool stuff. I have to say no also, 'cause sometimes ppl can get really mad if they catch you diving and taking stuff. (I really don't know why, I mean they were gonna throw it away!! I guess when they see that you think the trash is worth something, they want it back for some reason.) After all that being said, I'd say go for it. :approve:

Nice! :approve: Do u hook it up to the net, or just use it for programs.

I got a entry level computer from 1998 that is still on the net. Upgraded it to win 2000, and got a wifi pci card. This thing wants to run forever, why stop it? It got hit by a lightning storm in 1999 and it ruined the dial-up card, but the rest is still running fine in 2008.

Also, youd be suprised what people throw away. I hear of people wanting to trash a spyware filled xp machine, and im like Nooooooooooooooooooooooo...
