Now that Hotmail is cutting us off (from Outlook) what is your solution?

I have been using 5 hotmail accounts, each one for a separate business or online identity on forums. After I heard the news that Hotmail will drop Outlook Express and Outlook DAV support, I deactived two of those accounts, and merged the three on the live.com website. Of course, I still cannot see all incoming e-mails in one place like I do on Outlook. If I set up forwarding, the accounts will be deleted due to lack of activity or login..

I was wondering if logging into the MSN Messenger is considered as logging into hotmail e-mails, and if that would keep the accounts alive, if I forward them. I really don't want to have two e-mail clients on my desktop. One is more than enough.

Last resort is I get rid of hotmail, and move to gmail or something else with POP or IMAP support.

I've used gmail for years with several accounts just like you - and without any problems.

The emails that I read on my ax are removed from the gmail inbox and gets archived but not deleted from the specific gmail account.

Therefore I can search all my (AximSite) emails - like google - and get the link to the specific (AximSite) post that I'm looking for. Works OK !

So I just wonder why gmail is your last resort ?

.

The way gmail does that was a problem for me, as I still want download the email into Outlook even if I have read it on my ax. So I have a separate gmail account just for reading with my ax. I forward all the mail from the 'real' gmail account to that other one. I download from the 'real' account into Outlook. You could also forward email from other accounts (not necessarily just gmail) into that ax account so you could read everything from one account.

I always hated forwarding since replying is a problem. I also always hated filters and rules to forward certain accounts into certain folders. I really liked the way hotmail worked with Outlook, the way it created its own Personal Folder. Was always very easy to manage mails.

Yeah, forwarding makes replying more difficult. I use Flexmail, so I don't know if POutlook does the same, but I get around most reply problems by having the 'real' gmail account registered in FM, and then I have FM set to use that account for sending. FM uses it even when replying from the forwarded account. It certainly is a pain to lose Outlook support :rolling:

I don't forward anything !

The trick on my ax is to select 'download headers only' AND also select 'include 64k of the mail'

Thereby I can read my emails on my ax but they stay put in the gmail inbox until red otherwise.

THEN the emails are archived - NOT erased - by gmail.
