Gutting an external harddrive

I have a maxtor one touch external hard drive, which of course has failed. Has anybody gutted one of these and put another hard drive in the case?

Not that particular one, but pretty much every enclosure allows for hard drive replacement.
Just beware of possible heat issues.

Now that I only have 1 computer to play with instead of 2 I'll take getting the case open as a challenge

that means its an IDE hard drive. its what we called PATA before SATA came out. P for parallel.. S for serial. therfore easy to tell the diff..PATA has about 44 contacts inc power in a 2.5" form factor. SATA has 2 plugs 1 power 1 serial....
