US "Gas Temperature" map, again

Nifty site, for those curious about gas prices and haven't seen the earlier thread(s). You can enter your zip code and get the local prices in your area too.

The UK is currently paying an average of £5.19/gal at the moment (source) that's (very roughly) $10.40/gal!

Around 60% of that is tax.

about the same in tax here 60 to 70%.. but jogga a UK gallon is 8 pints of 20 ounces... a yank gallon is smaller.. their pint is 16 ounces..

4.55 ish litres /UK gallon and i think that a US gallon is 1 US gallon = 3.78541178 litres(curtesy google)

Thanks Spud, you're quite right :approve: An American gallon would cost around $8.66 here in the UK.

If I've read breley's map correctly, that's a little more than double the average US price.

Some of the differences is in taxation, as well as proximity to refineries, distribution centers, pipelines, etc. Offhand I'm not sure why Wyoming (a great state to visit for natural beauty, btw...home of Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Devil's Tower, Wind River...) is itself so low unless it has some subsidizing going one. Perhaps a Wyoming native can enlighten us.

Well, it seems that fuel protests are going to be a feature of UK politics once more.

Hopefully, we Brits won't keep taking it!

...sitting down in our fuel-inefficient SUVs, trucks and luxury vehicles, you mean. :) Oil supply has kept up with demand, but speculators, increased importation from China and India, and continued instability in the Middle East all contributed to the steep increase in oil from about $22/barrel in 2003 to nearly $130 in 2008.

Personally, I'd prefer to spend the cost difference on an occasional pint of a more edible variety.

Wyoming seems to be the lowest in gas prices, but they are also the least populated state. Not that it all has to do with population, look at Texas, but it still is a factor.

Not to get into politics here, but i believe our gas taxes need to be modified. Right now they are a % added to the gas price. But as prices rise, that once small % gets bigger and bigger in $. What we need is a fixed gas tax or something, so the government, state or national can still get their $, but us drivers dont have to take out a loan to fill up our tanks.

Unfortunately reducing taxes won't help much.
It has been proven countless times that reducing taxes, will cause a small price decrease on the short-run and the price will come back up.
