is this legal

so this company i work at, already having some bogus policies that we have to abide by has jus recently adopted a new policy so heres the situation. in our areas lies a huge tank of water and we used to be able to use the cups near it to fill up with water and drink it whenever needed on those hot late spring and summer days, and sometimes our area shift leads would bring us water.but now we cannot have water brought to us in cups, or bring in our own water bottles, instead we have to pay $15 for a water bottle that has the name of the company on it if we want water, this has to be a violation of some type of law.

IF you work for the company, and the company pays for the water/supplies, then they can charge you (although it would be BAD business to do so).
They're just getting on the bandwagon of companies charging higher prices to offset their overhead.

Prices go up (fuel/food/everything) and companies will pass the costs to the consumer (and employees).

But hey, you can use your stimulus check to pay for WATER !
This is the American way.

Purchase a truck, install a large tank in the bed of the truck.

Offer water for $10.00 and you're business!

Be sure to design a catchy logo for the bottles; i.e.: Cheapo Drinking Water! Free water but, the bottle'll cost $5.00 less then the company that just let me go! :approve:

if the work environment REQUIRES you to be on site (hot or not isn't an issue, but would tend to exacerbate the situation) There HAS to be facilities for your use... ie bathrooms and water.

I could see where they might not want discarded cups and trash on their worksite, especially if the property owners or others are complaning about trash (labeled bottles would prove who is leaving the trash)

So the only other alternative is to have your personal water and such in a break area or in your trucks and then be able to go to those areas at allotted times... for example in cat 5 heat, we'd have 30 minutes of work with a 10 minute break.

If they refuse to allow access to personal water in a break area, but will allow access to water you have to pay for, contact OSHA or a union rep if you have one

radimus infers an interesting point.

If they are charging you for water input ar they also charging you for water output? Alternatively, could you charge them for water output. Perhaps in an inverse way - charge them for not outputing water in specific places.

I have always maintained that it is my right to choose which bodily fluid I provide, and the means by which I provide it, for those questionably legal drug tests.

Illegal, probably not.

In poor raste, definitely.

OSHA requires the employer to provide access to potable water. It does not impose any restriction after that.

I'd say something here is BOGUS! (Could even be this thread...) I don't know what state you're in, but in CA, there is an organization known as CalOSHA which would love to hear your plight. Most likely (fed.) OSHA.
