Why not use the magnet to DISABLE the circuit, remove to drive...there are litterally 1000's of cute refrigerator magnets that would fill the bill and no one (but you and me and the rest of this forum readers) would the wiser.

Good luck on whatever method you choose..but I've vote for something that disables, not enables.

I guess I would not like to have to disable it because I am afraid I might forget to do it one night and then my car gets stolen and I would be kicking myself for forgeting. Having to enable it EACH time I start the engine feels safer to me. Maybe I am confused about what you are proposing. The Idea about the cute refigerator magnets was great, I will definatly do that.
Some one else sugested interupting the computer or something, thats good too. I went for the fuel pump because I know it well, I just got done doing work on it about 8 months ago.
As for this project I am just now assembling the parts since I am out of work. I had a hard time finding the reed switch, but then I found the kind you put on windows for home security.
I'll update this when I am done.

Many years ago (70's) when IC's were not common available I had a wonderful MG-B sportcar into which I installed a switch mode ignition system of my own design - with a safety lock.

This highly attractive (open) sportscar was never stolen :)

Yeah, my dad had a MG midgit and the guy next door had a triumph spitfire those kind of cars are awesome. It felt kind of crazy driving a car that low to the ground.
