Anyway, I'm drooling over the UPS: Tracking Information for my Halo 3: ODST. Newegg.com made a mistake and shipped it early. If UPS somehow holds my package until September 22, you will see one mad gamer storming the UPS warehouse...

Timothy Brook, Vermeer's Hat: The Seventeenth Century and the Dawn of the Global World. Using details found in Vermeer's paintings (and a few others), Brook brilliantly conveys life in that dynamic century. He connects the people of Delft with the rest of the world--directly through their perilous travels, and indirectly through the many consumer goods being exchanged.

I've heard a bit about the former book; it's quite interesting in its dissection of the origins of indigenous peoples' hunter-gatherer status relating to their environment and the the Eurocentric assumption that the Native Americans were "lazy" and "uncivilized" by virtue of their perceived lack of material wealth and static villages, when in fact the indigenous tribes/nations were well-adapted to their surroundings and consequently did not develop artificial societal constraints around fixed agriculture.

Finished my read throughs of Harry Potter and LOTR series including the Hobbit, finished 2nd read through of The Dark Tower Series by Stephen King, started a new series called A Song of Fire and Ice by RR Martin, quite enjoyable thus far...
Textbooks aside, I'm currently reading Judas Rising by Peter Hamilton. It's the follow up novel to Pandora's Star. For those who don't know Hamilton, he is a Sci-Fi writer.
@KimChee: The Dark Tower is excellent. I still wish I'd taken Kings advice at the very end though...
