Why not in Windows? Open a terminal ("Run -> cmd" I think, it's been a long time) and type it.
For Windows from the CLI it would be
Start-->Run (or windows key + R) then "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -safe-mode
Stupid Windows requires the actual path to be entered, unless the Mozilla folder is manually added to the system paths.
Quote:
With modern Linux distributions such as Ubuntu, the CLI is as unnecessary, unused, and unknown as it is in Windows. Still, it exists in both OSes.
I must be a geek, because I swear I can rarely run Red Hat/Suse/Ubuntu without doing something in the CLI.

They seem to be working from the Mobilitysite main page, but not within the boards/forums:thumbsdow.

You'll find safe mode in the same folder as Mozilla Firefox.
Go to your start button and find the Firefox folder and open that, you should have the standard browser and the safe mode all in one place.
Many thanks Jogga. I have tried the safe mode (I found it in the defaults/shortcuts folder) but it still hangs "Waiting for ad.doubleclick.net...". Really mysterious.

I don't know if this is the solution, but I found it on another forum. If you are running Firefox with adblock (from the Firefox addins page) you should be able to add http://*.doubleclick.* to prevent the problem banner loading.

Here's another potential solution. This suggests that Spybot may actually have caused the problem but it should be easy to determine if you follow the instructions.

I can type anything in the search box and it makes no difference, hit search and nothing happens.
Switch to IE, search for the same thing and away it goes.
This is FF3 on Vista.
I use google maps all the time, and this has only happened since upgrading to FF3.
Interesting. Could you test on a new, clean profile? If the bug still happens on a new, clean profile then please let me know:
1) Exactly what you searched for and from what url (Yes, I know it's Google Maps, but still).
2) Your OS and version (Yes, I know it's Vista, but what sp?)
3) Your Firefox UA string (you can get that from Simple Sniff)
I will file a bug at the Mozilla bugzilla on this as soon as I have that info, thanks.
Looks like the search function of Google Maps doesn't work with FF 3.
Try disabling the Skype plugin, Box, if you have it installed. I had a similar problem and the Skype plugin was to blame.

I was just reading your post Dotancohen, and putting the info together when Breley posted, I'm guessing you don't need it now?
No, I don't need the info but the Skype developers might want to know about that. I recommend that you post your findings on the Skype forums so that they can fix it.

Very many thanks Jogga. Yes I am using adblock and I have added http://*.doubleclick.* but it doesn't cure the problem. The site you directed me to talks about "adblock plus". I don't have this as my add-on, nor can I find it listed in the add-ons list. I am not using Skype.
