Could 'Watchmen' Get Delayed to 2010?

Quote:
Frakking lawsuits.

Last month, Elisabeth alerted you to the legal turmoil bubbling around Watchmen. Basically, 20th Century Fox used to have the rights, and claim they still have them, so they're trying to prevent Warner Brothers from releasing the eagerly awaited film. Warner Brothers, meanwhile, claims that Fox has sat silently until the film was set to go, knowing full well what was happening.

Now The New York Times says that Warner is pushing for a trial date of April, with Fox pushing for June. Assuming that the film can't be released until this is cleared up, we might not only not get Watchmen in March, but also not in the summer of 2009. Will we have to wait until 2010? I don't want to think about it. There's a whole swarm of moviegoers peeved about the Harry Potter delay. I can't imagine what a year-long delay would do to Watchmen fiends. Where's Doctor Manhattan when you need him? Or a jail-storming Nite Owl and Silk Spectre?

if they wait until 2010, it will land in the middle of the next Iron Man movie, the Thor movie, Capt America and the Avengers movies are in 2011. The Incredible Hulk move is scheduled in there as well. as well as a bunch of other sequels and others that have no release date yet

More Spider-Man for Maguire and Raimi
By Hugh Hart September 08, 2008 | 1:20:01 PMCategories: Celebrity, Movies, Sci-Fi

Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi are locked and loaded for Spider-Man 4 and Spider-Man 5.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Spidey star and his director have signed contracts for two more Spider-Man movies, which will likely be filmed back to back starting in fall 2009.

Raimi sounded optimistic early this summer about the script-in-progress by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac), so his return to the franchise is not too surprising.

As for Peter Parker's spunky girlfriend Mary Jane Watson, played by Kirsten Dunst in the first three films, no word from Sony yet on the redhead's fate. But you can be sure Raimi will champion Dunst's return. In June, he told Comingsoon.net: "I'd hate to recast anybody in the future. I can't imagine that."

Captain America Movie Finally on Marvel's Horizon
By John Scott Lewinski May 05, 2008 | 5:58:00 PMCategories: Comics, Movies, Sci-Fi
As Marvel Comics superheroes have heated up the big screen, a major character in the publisher's canon has remained frozen. A perfect arrangement of unfortunate circumstances has kept Captain America on the sidelines while the X-Men, Spider-Man and Fantastic Four series rolled around in piles of cash.

The general political atmosphere in Hollywood makes patriotic, pro-military characters a tough sell, and the decision-makers perceive an anti-American sentiment worldwide due to the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Unless a studio was to pit the shield-wielding supersoldier against an evil Republican, the pervasive, politically correct environment would prove more able to stop the Captain than Johann Shmidt.

But, one thing trumps politics in the movie business, and that's money. With Iron Man setting box office records, Marvel Entertainment announced a full slate of new films, two of which will finally thaw Steve Rogers.

The First Avenger: Captain America will arrive in 2011, according to the Marvel press release, and a proposed Avengers movie that same year would include the Captain, Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, etc. Thor should get his own feature in 2010, while an Iron Man sequel is all but assured.

Finally, an Ant Man movie is supposedly in development somewhere. But, he's too small for most fans to care.
