Vista Password Reset

My wifes laptop went through some updates tonight. Her computer installs & configures one round then shutdown. This happened 3 times. Her computer finally booted into Vista but now her password will not work. She used the hint option & the hint is different. Its like it reverted back to an old password. Any ideas of how to get into Vista without having to do a full restore? I HATE VISTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used this once. It works fairly well with Vista. Once you get the account back, create a password reset disk from Vista. You need any kind of media (I know flash drives work, maybe CDs?)

Control Panel-->User Account and Family Safety-->User accounts-->Create a Password Reset Disk (On the left side)-->Follow directions given

I remember another one. It's called John the Ripper but I never used it. So, I don't know how well it works. John the Ripper password cracker

Thanks a lot for the help that worked like a charm. When I talked to Dell the basically to me to do a full restore. I figured there must be a way to reset the password without loosing everything. I am creating the disk now.

Personally I use EBCD (Emergency Boot CD) that is free and full of nifty tools, including a Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista password reset tool. Simply boot up the CD, choose the password reset option, select the desired account, and voila! you can blank the password.
