Suggest a small, hackable mobile device

I have been toying with the idea of getting a small, hackable mobile device. I have looked at the Nokia N8**, the Pandora, the Chumby, and none of them have really met my wants (the Chumby got close, but no battery, and relying heavily on Flash took it out of the running).

Really, I just want something to "mess" with, and be able to do "cool things" on.

My need:
* Under $300

* Pre established hacking community. I have started hacking communities from scratch. Eventually it was amazingly successful, but I want something I _know_ can be hacked.

* Battery. I'm looking at you, Chumby.

* Network (wired, or wireless, don't care which)

My wants:
* Bluetooth
* USB host
* Maximum amount of connectivity possible

Thanks!
Chris

if you looked at the pandora then that is the one... but they have already sold the first run in preorders.. second run to be early next year....

have you thought of the GP2X ?? it was an inspiration for the pandora. there is a big modding community and its open source ish...and they are under $200 on ebay etc.. if you can find one..... portable...does music,movies, MAME, lots of other emu's so have a look....

Thanks Spud,

I looked over the GP2X, and I just wasn't really impressed with it. It didn't have any networking support internally, which immediately takes it out of the running. Something the the Archos 5, only more stable, and more hackable.
