USB charging

Hi,

I have a Mini USB Y cable, and may be getting an IPAq for Xmas.

I was considering the thought of using the USB to mains adapter (hooked to a USB extension cord) to plug into the "extra power" USB connector on the Y cable, then having the other end of the USB Y cable plugged into my comp, then the mini usb connector plugged into the IPAQ.

Here is a diagram in lovely ASCII art...
Code:
Mains to USB adapter

 +-------- IPAQ

Basically, what I want to achieve is to charge my IPAQ when my PC is not on. Will this work? Common sense says it should, but I want to make sure there won't be any issues.

It certainly sound like it should work.

I have a similar Y connector for the VGA cable of my Ax which I use quite often as a charger.
It will charge with,
both connected,
only the USB to PC connected
and with just the USB adapter connected.

The main thing I'm worried about is if the IPAQ charger is the standard USB voltage. I seem to recall that some Ipods (Yes I used a capital latter, it's a proper noun, get used to it.) used a mains to USB adapter that outputted like 12 VDC...
