Windows Vista crashed

I'm going to see if I can download and burn a cd or something off the MS site. It turns on and sometines the desktop shows up but mouse never works and sometimes keyboard does or doesn't.
Thoughts?

Laptop or desktop?

Unplug all external extras and open the CD draw.

Try replugging the devices in.
During POST (Right when you press the power button), press F2 or any key that gets into your BIOS. If it does go into your BIOS, your keyboard is good.

No joke; rather, simply a comment in keeping with the depth of thought and information contained in the original post. If this were not in the Water Fountain, it could possibly have been taken seriously.

Thanks, I appreciate you pointing out how little I know, like I wasn't aware of it already.

Back on topic....

The bios utility will start up but I'm going to have to find someone around here to come show me what I need to do. Thanks for the help, those of you who did, it is very much appreciated.

Seriously, Kevin, do you have restore points turned on and one in the recent past you could restore to?

Actually, before that, are you certain you do not have a hardware failure? It is unusual to have keyboards and mice not recognized. Are all the connections secure?

It really does not sound as if Vista crashed; it sounds like the hardware failed.

I believe it is missing drivers...
Try booting into safe mode with F8 at start up.

I think the best bet is get a old USB mouse from someone, use it to get the drivers for your mouse and then return it.

keyboard and mouse drivers are built in, no need for drivers.

it sounds like bad hardware, do you have your original vista CD, boot from it?

that will connect to most of your devices to see what works and what doesn't

Kevin said it was a desktop. For example, my M$ Sidewinder X5 need a driver to function...

And Rad, I was assuming you was referring to a repair install.

Reseat all the connections (mouse, keyboard, monitor), shut down completely, and restart. Any difference?
