This is one of four engines for a cruise ship.
The other three are sort of in the picture too, I couldn't get back far enough to fit them all in the frame.
What you might think is a building in the background is actually the sister ship for the one these engines will be going in.
Did I miss the picture you took? I see the WEB sites, but, that's it. :o
It does take me back to my shipyard days. :)
The ships I worked with didn't have Azipods. They did have a bow thruster which worked on the same principle. 360 degrees of rotation to control position.

Sorry, they won't budge on the firewall. But, I did just go to another network source and see the picture now. Usually I can see a WEB link or Icon indicating a picture is there even if I can't see it.
What's interesting is, Navy ships usually have the engines installed before the superstructure goes on. Based on your photo and statement, the engines don't go in until after the superstructure?

If you read my post again you will notice I said these are the engines for the sister ship of the one in the background.
As soon as that ship, Equinox, is floated out of the building hall, the bottom sections of the next one will be craned into the dry dock and then then engines added.
If you look at the webcam shots on the website you will see the first sections for the next ship piled up along side Equinox, and the engines are sitting in the middle of that lot.

From your statement "What you might think is a building in the background is actually the sister ship for the one these engines will be going in" I took it to mean one of those engines was going into that ship which already had the superstructure installed.
Obviously, my misunderstanding. :o

Are the engines under load all the time or do they keep one or two in reserve?

Your cup holders are a little too high tech H, but perhaps we could get the senate to pass a motion requiring their use.
That would certainly knock them off their stools.
