Question Dell and the Tablet PC

I started wondering why there wasn't a Dell Tablet PC. I Googled it and found this interesting dialog:

Dell Tablet PC

Mr. Dell basically says if customers started buying tablet PC's they'll think about making one. For now they feel it's just another Pen PC fad that will fizzle in a few.

What do you think?

I think it's got some real potential. it's basically an oversized PDA that gives you a full screen. all you have to do is plug it into a docking station to use a full keyboard. I think they're gonna gain alot of market share in the next few years for sure.

I completely disagree. Tablets are a test into the market to see if people will buy into a drasticly different pc product. Most people won't. They have no use for them.

I should add that I think they look pretty cool. If they do catch on, I would consider getting one. :)

Hasn't Compaq had one for a while? About 6-9 months ago I seem to remember seeing a bunch of adds for it. Not sure what happened to it.

Compaq has the TC 1000

I've been thinking about a laptop for a while. I'm not sure if I want a tablet pc though. They're neat, If I had money to burn I'd have one already.

Does anyone know if Windows XP Tablet PC addition could possibly not run programs that Windows XP could? Has anyone ran into a problem like that? It seems unlikely, but the possiblity is there.

I dont like the compaq one because it doesnt have a swivel design like some of the others. I think its more convienient to have a laptop that you can also use like a tablet pc with the swivel design

yeah the swivel ones offer the best of both worlds. I like the tablet idea a lot but needing to dcok to get a KB and mouse? The swivel I thikn will be the one that survives

My office was looking for tablets a while back I found this googling. Looks like Dell.ca has one.

I would LOVE a table PC with a screen big enough to work on. But it would have to be quite a bit different than the "toys" I've seen manufactured so far.

It would have to be able to run 5-8 hours before recharging.

It would have to have a tiny hard drive with at least 20 gigs (preferrably 40).

It would have to be as thin and light weight as possible.

It would need two or three SD card slots for permanent, important items.

An attached keyboard would not be desired, but an external would be great.

What I'd pretty much like is a PDA with room to work.

I agree with Wayfinder... those things seem like minimums. I would want it to replace my desktop.
