im not one for waiting in lines, but ms win vista comes out tonight
yeah, so im getting ready to go out and wait in line for windows vista ultimate edition. why, im not really sure, but im excited about getting my trackpad sliding, stylus tapping fingers on the uniquely packaged black windows vista ultimate edition box. no, i didnt wait in line for a zune or a wii or ps3, this is a whole different realm of lunacy (in my mind) which calls for action on my part :)
ive been reading and beta testing, then reading some more, and testing, then for a while i gave up after dealing with beta bug overload... and now, finally its here :)
ive been makeing my computers and my pdas "look" like vista (and crossbow) for long enough... its time
tomorrow, ill upgrade my stinkpad t42p which is currently cruizing along with windows xp pro (it dosnt know its about to have major digital replacement surgery) and ill be "testing" the public release happily and bug free (or so i hope) and of course, ill be testing all my devices along with the new os and the new mobile device center....
did i mention im excited:)
well, a quick bite to eat, then im off!
wish me luck...
should i not return. julie, you can have my 2755 and my axim, vilasman can get the rest of whatevers in mypda :)
I am looking forward to getting Vista..... this summer. The only reason I am waiting is because I am getting it on a new PC for myself for my birthday :)

ill have to say, this upgrade process (not counting the backup) took forever! allmost 2 hours all-in-all. im happy that i didnt need to use the backups that i created before the upgrade, and im also happy that i didnt have any driver issues (at all) after the install on my stinkpad. i did pre-download all the necessary drivers just in case, but i didnt even need them :) awsome...
well, so far its really nice... the os is beautifull, i love the new ui and the ease of directory accessability. not too impressed with the flipidy windows (apple does a waaay better job with expose). im not even thinking about compairing this to osx. some things are much different in this release compaired to other builds and of course, xp... its oging to take a while to figure some things out, while some things can be done the same way as before:) i love the way it handles admin access and limiting privs, something ive been implimenting on all my client xp machines for a while now, and it WORKS (read: dropmyrights)!
im not sure about this mobile device center (which hasnt been updated since rc1). i like more dials and settings, for which the current release really lacks. i did get my wm5 devices to sync so far.
sad that outpost firewall is not vista-able yet (not many firewall vendors have a version released yet), however i do have kaspersky antivirus running like a champ. the firewall built into the os is much more secure than the previous iteration, so im a little happier about that untill outpost is released. ive been reading as much as possible before i go home to "play" again.
everyone should go sell some aluminum cans or something and grab a copy... i think its well worth the money!
what's the media centre like? I have Vista Business and am wondering if it is worth £75 to upgrade to Ultimate. Also, where do you buy the Vista Media Centre remote control (in England) as I would want one of them?

I think Vista a great step forward, but I was a little disappointed knowing that they could have done better. Take a look at this video of a photo organization software from a Microsoft department. It looks like it was a precursor to what they now have in Vista. Unfortunately they left out many of the cool features. Hopefully they release an Ultimate update to allow some of these and other WOW missing features.
