I have not written in some time, but some time ago because I was a former friend (not anymore) to someone who caused some trouble on a number of websites, my IP addess was banned just for association with this person (Cyberdoc1971). I now need to do some research and I can't even read (not reply) the forum topics for brighthand and some other sites that would help in my research. I feel that this is not right, he caused the problems, not me, and what can I do about it? I have tried to contact the site administrators explaining the problem, but they have never responded to my e-mails.
Can't really help you with those sites, but what is it you wish to know?

I don't understand why would you get banned if you didn't have anything to do with anything. Sorry we cannot help you much with that. Please try to e-mail them again at info@Brighthand.com otherwise there is nothing we can do about it.

I wonder if you used a router (or different router) if that would change what showed as your IP address???
Ron... (Great Bridge HS alumni, now in Florida)
I had considered that, but someone told me that wont specifically won't change the IP. However if you change the cable modem, it should give you a diffrent IP, or ask the ISP to change the IP. On this, I have tried to contact Brighthand to lift the ban, just waiting to see what happens.
Your router-assigned private LAN IP address won't change your public assigned IP Address provided by your ISP. If your former friend caused enough problems for the various websites, the ISP themselves may even be blocked at a network level.
Your best bet is to send a request via a different ISP. For example, take a laptop to a coffee shop with internet access and send the e-mail from there. Or go to your local public library and request assistance in sending an e-mail that way.
If they (Brighthand, or other websites) refuse to deal with you, then I regret to inform you that you do not really have any recourse available. Sorry.
A little off-topic, but worthwhile to mention: I suggest that you never loan your computer to a friend, or allow a friend to use your computer. Treat it the same as loaning out a car. Someone could use your car to commit a crime, you'll be the one who gets blamed. Likewise, if someone uses your computer to launch a denial of service attack (or commit crimes against children), you will be held responsible, so limit your liability by never loaning it out!
