advice needed...what would you do...

I need ideas on what to do about this....

Approximately 3 weeks ago I sold a keyboard online (not through ebay). And, the guy that wanted to buy it said he would send me a check.
Two weeks ago I got something in the mail from this guy but it wasn't a check for the keyboard. Instead, it was a holiday greeting card and an enclosed family photo that he meant to send to one of his friends. I think his friend got my check....at least that is what I would assume.
Ever since I got this greeting card/photo I have been trying to contact this guy through email to let him know the situation. I have not heard from him. Do you feel as if I am still obligated to hold this keyboard for him and give him a chance to correct the error (despite that he has not answered 3 emails)? Or, should I try again to sell it to someone else? Part of me says that I'd be a b*t*h if I were to not give him some time to respond and another part of me says that I've given him enough time. Please give some comments/suggestions.

THANKS!

Two weeks is a long time to not respond to three e-mails, but I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt (and you never know what kind of computer problems can occur). I'm assuming you have his postal address...perhaps you could send him a "real" letter, and give him a week or so to respond to that before you resell the keyboard?

I would give him a couple more days and then send an email letting him know that if you don't get a response with the next week you will have to sell the keyboard to someone else. That way you can be somewhat nice, but not stuck in seller's limbo.

well, there is a return address but the post office stamped the envelope in such a way that I can't make it out. The most I can make out of it is the state he lives in.
And, thanks for the ideas/opinions...they do help as I've only sold an item or two in the past online and I'm not quite experienced on what to do if there is a glitch with the transaction.

I'm sure me getting the card/photo was just a mistake.
It looks as if this guy was trying to do two things at once and couldn't handle it and messed up when placing the contents in each envelope. There was also a letter enclosed for whoever was supposed to get the card/photo so I know he didn't mean to send this to me.

When I got this in the mail, it had been sent to my work address. After work, I opened the envelope in my car with the intent on going to the bank and depositing what should have been the check. When I saw that it was a greeting card/photo, I realized what must have happened and got a kick out of it. Needless to say, I had a good laugh on my hour commute home. :)

I would check the policies of the site you used to make the transaction. Are you allowed to back out of a contract to sell the keyboard to the guy? If yes, then what steps would you need to take in order to do so???? Be VERY careful. Other than that, I would say you weren't being a b*t*h for trying to sell it to someone else. Anyways, Good Luck!
