Helps on web hosting!

Help me out, pal...

I'm considering building my own personal web site by going to one of those web hosting companies (www.ipowerweb.com is likely the one).

Usually they offer free domain name with the service. However, am I the owner of the domain name? i.e., I can transfer the domain name to any other hosts as I wish and they can't sell the domain name to a 3rd party even if it offers billion $$$ for it.

I called and only got oral confirmation but they have nothing in writing about this.

Can anyone confirm for me?

Also, if anyone knows of services better or cheaper ($8/mo.) than ipowerweb.com please feel free to recommend. All I need is a service with >200MB space and >10GB/mo transfer.

TIA!

Ehien

the thing to be careful about when getting a webhost and wanting to pay monthly, is finding out whether they actually allow you to pay by the month. MOST hosts will list their services and say it costs 5/month but you only get that price if you pay by the year. it's quite rediculous but thats how it works. My webhost for 6 a month gives me 2gig space and 2gig a month transfer but it looks like you'd like less space and more bandwidth. if 8 a month is the actual price i think you've found a great deal with that host. if you're interested in mine its www.lowestcosthost.com

Slease,

Thanks for the info.

I checked more and decided to go with ipowerweb.com after found out in their FAQ it's stated that I do "own" the domain name.

It has good price ($95/yr. with domain name) and good size (800MB space and 40GB/mo. transfer). My brother has used it for a while and let me checked out its features (good to be able to set password protection for whatever directories) and user interface- all pretty nice.

Hopefully I'll be able to get the website up soon and start sharing photos I took over the years.

Cheers.

Ehien

A friend of mine uses powweb, it's an entire 18c cheaper than your $7.95, yay:p

All these are kinda useless to me though cause i'm an ASP man, not PHP, and all ASP hosting seems to be triple+ that.
