Motherboard Extreme!! Please Help!!
I have a D850MD intel motherboard.....
HELP!! I got 512mb PC800(256mb X2 cards) of new rdram for christmas this morning...
Before I installed the ram I had this configuration:
Bank 0 = 64mb PC600 RDRAM
Bank 1 = 64mb PC600 RDRAM
Bank 2 = DUMMY CARD
BANK 3 = DUMMY CARD
----------------------------------------------------
After I installed the new ram I had this configuration:
Bank 0 = 64mb PC600 RDRAM
Bank 1 = 64mb PC600 RDRAM
Bank 2 = 256mb PC800 RDRAM
BANK 3 = 256mb PC800 RDRAM
------------------------------------------------------
Well, after I got the new ram installed... I turned the pc on and the fans turned on.. no video, 10 seconds later I lost all external power to usb ports and such.. SO, I turned it off by holding the power switch for 10 seconds... so I was scared for a sec.. I pulled the new ram out and set my motherboard back to the configuration I had on the first place (see above). I turned it on and I had power to everything but I had no video and got a 3 - long beep error... So I looked that up in intel's website and it sait the 3 beeps mean: "First 64kb memory error"
:rolling: AHHH!!!! NOW WHAT!!?! PLEASE HELP ME!!

After you went back to your original configuration did you try resetting your BIOS .. Most of the time you can do this by simply removing your CMOS battery ... Some boards require you to short a jumper to clear the BIOS ..

Did you bend any of the pins in the ram slots? Could be shorting .. Possible something on the motherboard itself shorted ..

i'm not sure, but i think that all the RDRAM in your computer has to be the same speed. there's more to it than just making sure that the two in each channel are the same size... i'm not sure exactly what though. i've heard of that problem in the past, that the RAM has to be the same speed. try just putting in the newer ram and taking out the old stuff. if that doesn't work, then i have no idea. hope it works out for ya.

Well if it doesn't work with the 2 original chips I say try with just the 2 new ram chips since they are the same speed .. If that doesn't work I'd lean toward your motherboard being fried ...
