How to download photo for PDA backround Sceen?

Can I download a BMP photo to use as my Backround ?

I think you have to use the Theme generator program from Microsoft. (it is free)

Then to make your Axim look even better, you can skin it more fully with Wisbar -Download Here

And then free skins for wisbar can be found on their forum, but this one is the most complete I have found - LightMan's Themes and Skins on Wisbar Forum

When you go to Start\Settings\Today\Appearance, the images that are available in the browse box at the bottom seem to be only jpegs.
You'll want to store images as jpg just for the space savings anyway. I have a photo album on CF card that is available to this image selection for wallpaper.
This method of applying an image is less than great however, because it automatically fogs the picture to get contrast for the text on the screen.
Much better is the Theme Generator as posted above, where you control the fog/brightness amount if any, plus other tweaks to the colors and such.
