Looking for input

I guess first off something of an introduction.

I'm a software developer (primarily web based, but working on more pocket pc/palm os development), and am trying to work ever closer to the medical field as I slowly but surely get ready to go to med school and switch careers.

In this vein, I'm looking for things to do to help bridge the gap - I figured software development for home tracking, etc., would be a good place to start - at least until I can find a position in IT within a medical facility.

Up until now, I've only done one such thing, and that is to create a web-based contraction monitoring tool (just delivered a baby 6 weeks ago - it was a needs based thing ;) ) - you can see it at http://www.dragonsept.com/mnfiddledragon

My first goal for pocket pc is to convert it from a web-based app to a pocket pc app w/desktop components...I'd ultimately like to see it be one in a number of home tracking components.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Pocket PC and Medical stuf

Yes, yes, oh god yes. You're just the kind of person I need to talk to. I tricked out my old handera 330 with every virtual medical database possible as i hate getting out of bed at 1am when i'm on call to answer a question. I am switching over to a Pocket PC platform (3xi), and it is clear that this is a step in integrating some of the software that is available in the Window's XP, and even composing some from scratch. While databases are one thing (God bless Epocrates and Tarascon), personal tracking databases are another. I really think our society is coming to a point where Pocket PC's are going to be Ubiquitous, especially in the baby booming middle class folk who suddenly have essential hypertension, diabetes, and everything else under the sun.

One idea for consumers includes a program that would list all the medication the person is taking- Drug, Strength, dosage form, Instruction for use, physician, pharmacist who filled it, etc. The names of medication would pop up at the scheduled times, and when the person took it, they would simply click on the name and it would go away until the next scheduled time. Also, this would allow the patient to present to any pharmacist or physician exactly what he/she is taking, and who prescribed it. An idea like this has utility all the way around the health care circle. I would think that drug companies would bend over backward to help pharmacists implement this one....

I have other more promising ideas, too. Who wants to run with some of them?
