I know you think you were wronged, but you just come across as a raving looney.

I guess you just learned a valuable lesson about trying to save a few bucks by going the Ebay route.

When it comes to small items like PDAs, it doesn't make economic sense to try to repair them.

It reminds me of the old palm pilot days when it was cheaper to buy a new one than to pay palm to fixithe screen.

Oh come on guys. We don't want to run him off, do we?

Well, ok. I agree with everyone. Dump it.

EDIT: After reading Jordan's post, I think he should be run off. We don't need that kind of stuff here.

And I would have taken the whole deal as a lesson learned instead of complaining about it here.

Look guys. PDAs are not repaired for a reason. By the time you take the cost of keeping parts on hand, add in the high labor charges associated with repairs, and ship the thing back to them.....you're going to be right at the same cost as what a refurbished unit would cost you anyhow.

Now.. Wait a Minute..

Yes..
I asked that question..a while ago.. About using the Rom..But you failed to mention that I purchased the upgrade for WM 2003 (June 2003) , and was stuck right along with everyone else... with the delay...

I never did install the ROM... that I had found on the Internet...

Just because I asked a question about using a ROM, doesn't mean that I do not have a valid objection to the lack of help that Dell is offering..
I just need to find some place that will fix this thing..
Is that so much to ask....?

I have been a loyal customer of Dell for 6 years..

Home computer, Laptop and (2) Axims..

PocketPCTechs.com does common PDA repairs, but all they have listed for the Axim X5 is a Screen repair. As you'll see, the screen repair is $150 through them, versus about $50 if you do it yourself. That is why I mentioned before that:

Even if you were to find a place that would repair the unit, yours is not a "common" repair. It is likely to cost you at least $150 (after all charges), if not more. You're better off with a refurb.

I used to believe that non-repairable Axim is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen for such an expensive gadget.

But after my unit broke down and sent it in for an exchange.

The fast turn around shattered my belief that expensive unit has to be repairable.

Also, in my case, the replacement unit is a far better unit than the original one. (PXA250 > PXA255)

:D

When it really comes down to it, it really doesn't matter that you have been a loyal customer having a home desktop, laptop and 2 Axims. Repairing an Axim it not like repairing a desktop or laptop. It is just not worth it to put in a bunch of money on a PDA that is out of warranty! That's life with PDA's (whether PPC or Palms).

Buy your axims from Dell and then say you are a loyal customer. You buy a PDA from the worlds largest garage sell you have to be careful.

There is a used unit on e-bay, right now, for $179..!!!

So that "Deal" is NO DEAL !!!

opusp@playful.com

LOL...How comical you are. You bought a used Axim on 2/6 on e-bay with a 11 month warranty for $20 less than a refurbished one from Dell with a 1 year warranty. 11- 1/2 months later it dies. You LOSE. So that e-bay "Deal" you got really was a NO DEAL. That's the whole reason why I just bought a new 3Xi when I really wanted an X5 like my wife's. Any way thanks for the laugh dude, and keep searching the internet for the ultimate deal.

The way I see it, what it boils down to is this: He posted this on the wrong site. Had he posted on HP/Compaq, Toshiba, Sony, Palm, Gateway........the list goes on and on, in other words, on any site other than a Dell Site, and he might have got a bit tea & sympathy.

But by and large We are here 'cause we like it here, and by and large, we like Dell!
