PLease !!!: Alert People to Dump Dell Axim products..

Here is a letter that I have posted throughout 12 Yahoo.com Pocket PC User Groups..

http://groups.yahoo.com/

If you want, you can forward it to people that you know, as well..

I am very upset right now..

TO: DellAximX5@yahoogroups.com, Compaq5450@yahoogroups.com, PocketPC-today@yahoogroups.com, ipaqworld@yahoogroups.com, pcutil@yahoogroups.com,
CC: axim@yahoogroups.com, axim-user@yahoogroups.com, axim-x5@yahoogroups.com, dellaxim@yahoogroups.com, aximpda@yahoogroups.com, dellaximx5@yahoogroups.com, opusp@playful.com

Hello..

I am issuing a Mass Alert !!!

I have (2) Dell Axim's :

X5 Advanced (400 Mhz) - Purchased 6 Feb 2003

X5 Basic (300 Mhz) - Purchased 2 March 2003

I purchased them on E-bay, from others..
(Not directly from Dell)

Both units had a (1) year warranty..

My 400 Mhz is having problems..

Last Friday, after using it throughout the day at work..
I refused to power up Friday night..

I noticed the battery felt hot, and put it on the cradle... to re-charge..

It does not seem to hold a charge, once it it removed from the cradle..

I purchased another battery from someone on e-bay.
(A sealed unit, New from the factory)

I have tried this new battery, did not fix problem.
I have tried changing the backup battery, did not fix problem.
Tech support suggested that I was re-loading
"corrupted" data when I restored it..

I have tried using it from a New "Boot"
(After the system had blanked, I was forced to: (At the same time)
Hold down the Power button and push the soft reset button on the side..)

This told me "All data would be erased" (Yes/No)
.
Now, with a "Fresh" boot..

The system STILL does not hold a charge..

Anyway..

It turns out the Warranty has Expired.
The business I bought the unit from , (for $355.00) bought it on Jan 6, 2003.

Now, Since the warranty has expired. Dell cannot help me..

A) I cannot extend the warranty, now, because they can only do that for units in working condition.
B) They told me they can sell me a "Re-Furbished " unit for $199.00 (Plus shipping.)

Basically, this "Advanced X5" that I bought on Feb 6, 2003, is junk..

(Useless..)

They will not give me a credit, or anything..

Dell Tech Support told me that they do not "Repair" the units.. They just trade out units for "Re-Furbished" units..

Well.. with no repair available, and no other options..
They want me to spend a total of $554.00 (Plus shipping)
For a unit that I have had for less than a year..

(And only be available to give me only a "Re-Furbished" unit..
Not even a "NEW" unit...

My God...

This is just CRAP !!!

I work with a guy, whose son dropped his HP Ipaq..

His warranty had expired, but He was able to ship it to HP, and for a fee, they repaired it and shipped it back to him..

Dell REFUSES TO DO EVEN THIS..!!!
(No repair available..)

I just got off the phone with a Manager at Customer Support..

He repeatedly reminded me that I did not purchase this from Dell, and therfore, the warranty has expired..

He told me that there is nothing else he can do for me..
(Only to offer the $199 "Re-Furbished" unit..)

There is a used unit on e-bay, right now, for $179..!!!

So that "Deal" is NO DEAL !!!

I have a:
Dell Optiplex GX1 (Home computer..)
Dell Latitude P II-266 MHz
(2) Dell Axim X5 (Advanced & Basic)

I am getting rid of ALL OF MY DELL PRODUCTS !!!

Ever since the disaster of trying to upgrade to Windows Mobile 2003, Dell Customer Support has turned to crap..

PLEASE.... DUMP YOUR AXIM BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE...!!

So as long as you are selling everything I'll buy the broken X5 for 30$.

Let me know.

For God's Sake ... Jump...!

My problem with Dell is that they offer NO REPAIR on the unit..

THe only thing they offer is for $199.00, They will send me a "Re-Furbished" unit..

I need this unit repaired...

(Or replaced..)

HP will repair faulty Ipaq's(Out of Warranty) for a fee..

Toshiba will repair faulty PDA's (Out of Warranty) for a fee..

Dell does not perform Repairs on Axim's...

All they do for warranty items is exchange it for serviceable items..

That's like saying ..
I buy a $1000 Fridge..
It breaks after the warranty..

They won't fix it, but they will sell me another...

No Way !!!

It should be able to be repaired...
(Even for a Fee..!!!)

I'm sorry, but I'm just going to be honest.....after reading this entire rant, I feel like I came out a dumber person.

Dell has done nothing wrong on their part. The unit was purchased on Jan. 6, 2003 and it is now Jan. 27, 2004. The 1-year warranty is up, so they are not obligated to fix it in any way.

And why should they allow you to extend the warranty after it has a problem? That would be like me going and buying a car with a standard 3-year warranty, getting an oil leak at 3.5 years, and then trying to buy the extended warranty that I originally passed up on. They're not going to do that. If you want an extended warranty, you have to get it up front before you have problems out of the car (or in this case, Axim). I know that you didn't buy it from Dell so you didn't get a choice, but that was your decision. If you wanted an extended warranty, you should have bought the Axim from Dell themselves.

Any respectable company would have done the same thing for you, which in this case is to do nothing.

Thank you for the "mass alert" of your non-problem.

Why do you

continue

to post

on
multiple

lines??

Seriously, it's really long, and makes it much harder to read.

Exactly correct, which is how many companies handle items like PDAs, digital cameras, etc nowadays. Because the parts are not as easily replaceable as with most electronic devices, it doesn't make sense to repair the device. It could be away for a month or more before you ever got it back. With the "advance exchange" warranties that many companies (not just Dell) are offering now, you can have your problem resolved in a matter of days instead of having to send it off for weeks or months at a time.

Seems pretty smart to me.

That's what you get for not buying it from Dell. I have 2 Axim's, a Dimension 8250 desktop and an Inspiron 8000 laptop.

I love my entire collection of Dell's and have never had a problem. I would recommend Dell to anyone and have done so numerous times.

You should go back to the eBay seller. Also remember, "Buyer beware" when using eBay. Myself I have used eBay for 3+ years and never had a problem, but I'd never by anything like an Axim off eBay.

Sorry guys, I agree with the rant - although I have had my Axim for a year and still love it, I belive it should at least be repairable. If you buy a TV and it craps out after warranty you can take it in and have a part or two changed at much less than 2/3`s the origional cost - they should have spare parts for repair depots around the country - in fact I`ll bet it`s the law in many jurisdictions.

The reason I chose the Dell Axim was that it had a "Replaceable" battery.. I used to have a Sony Clie.. When the battery died.. I was stuck... (Non-Replaceable..) Does anyone know a company that will repair a Dell Axim...?

You know....I'm even more irritated about this post after doing a little research.

You've made all of 4 posts on Aximsite:
--2 in this thread
--1 that was a repost of this (which got removed by the way)
--And 1 post back in August asking for help in installing an illegal/pirated update to WM2003 that you found online, which required Hex-editing the ROM update in order to install it.

You know, something makes me think that a slip-up in trying to illegally install that update didn't help your Axim's ROM at all. Now I'm definitely glad that Dell didn't help you.
