Dell's "Order Status" almost useless

I've been monitoring the "progress" of my order (placed 1/15) and have come to realize the Dell "order status" is almost useless. The DO recognize my numbers, so I exist. But, the "estimated shipping date" is merely an arbitrary date set and reset (for me) one week out.
Feb9 ship date was changed to Feb17
Feb11 ship date was changed to Feb18
Feb12 ship date was changed to Feb19
Feb13 ship date was changed to Feb20
Feb14 ship date was changed to Feb21
Feb17 ship date was changed to Feb24
Feb18 ship date was changed to Feb25

I'm convinced these changes are merely automated adjustments with little or no input from actual production or deliveries of the Axim. I understand delays. This is actually worse than having no information at all.

I am on the verge of canceling the order. The problems is I've started buying accessories and the order (done through a University store) has shown up on my VISA!!

Sorry for the rant (again!). I look forward to send real questions and application success stories!

the orderstatus doesn't make sense at all, I ordered my 400mhz with extra synchcable on 3 feb... the the date jumped a few times (within days) between 14 feb and 3 march!.. it's shipping now, ETA tomorrow :rolling:

thanks for the understanding!

If I cancel the order (still deciding) it won't be because of the delays, at least not yet. I understand the delay might be any of the components of my order. I'm getting (see I'm hopeful!) the keyboard, case, both cradle and sync cord, and an SD memory chip (yeah I could have gotten it much cheaper elsewhere!).

What P$ss's me off is the daily disappointment the "order status" site impresses on me. My wife tells me I don't need a PDA at all and I'm beginning to think she's right; I do know I don't need the aggravation!

Hang in there Bruce. My wife told me it wasn't really necessary either. But I'm having fun with it, and because I've managed to show its use at work, my company picked up the tab.

I agree with your initial post completely that the poor info is worse than none at all. Your hopes are raised only to be dashed repeatedly. I've had my Axim about a month now. Ordered on Jan. 6; notified shipped on Jan. 7 (but it was really only the confirmation paperwork); wathced the Order Status info; no change util Jan. 14 when I found out it was already enroute; then arrived on Jan. 17 - just over 10 days. Thought it might be longer because I was just under the rebate wire.

Happily this is not a life or death situation. Regarding Dell support problems others have seen: so far no horror stories, in fact the opposite. I bought the leather case, then $29. When it arrived I decided I did not like the way it fit and emailed Dell to ask about an RMA or how I should return. They responded w/in 24 hours, issuing a credit and telling me to keep it. So for now I use it, but will probably use the credit for a Sena case.

(can you tell I 'm procrastinating at work?)

Thanks for the encouragement. I've started buying stuff in anticipation (SD card, screen protectors, etc). But, I've been waiting 38 days!! There are several on this forum who canceled and reordered and that seemed to have gotten them the unit. No one I've read has waited as much as 38 days. I can't tell if that's because they've canceled (reordering or not) or because they got theirs. The Dell Order Site is actually worse than useless.

I received mine before the tracking even showed that someone was "working on building it". Tracking is useless. I have yet to get confirmation, not that I am looking anymore since I received it! :)

I ordered mine on the 10th and got it on the 17th. I checked that status site daily, ok many times daily. It NEVER showed that I had ever placed an order. I checked a few minutes ago it still has no orders for me. I got worried after a few days and called the 1-800-433-9014 just to make sure I did have an order and got a FedEx tracking number. Good luck everyone.....it's worth the wait.
