i have a lot to learn...

ok so recently my dad has decided to put me in charge of the families new linux server...

i have to learn all i can about redhat as fast as i can. I am using the gnome gooey and as far as i can tell, it is very similar to windows, and not what i expected.

I also need to learn html, ftp, and all that good stuff

any links?

are there like quicknotes for redhat?

i know close to nothing about either of those things and i need help quick, if i am to attain the uber-geekdom that i aspire to...

just to shout out random acronyms that my dad delegated to me, i also want to learn about vnc clients, and a whole bunch of other stuff that goes along with redhat servers that i already forgot

VNC, Grentz did a post on VNC somewhere. It's a remote control app. If you have wifi on your PPC you'll be able to remotely control the Linux box. :)

Get knoppix. It is linux that you just burn to a cd, and put it in the drive. Put it in the cd drive, and restart your computer. Knoppix will be recognized as a hard drive. From there, it is self explanitory. It is PERFECT for learning linux. When you are done, shut down the computer, and remove the knoppix cd, and all the xp stuff is still there. Very cool.

BTW: knoppix is FREE!

if you have any questions I have some experience, although not a ton. I had red hat 7 and 8 and now I have fedora core 2 installed (although I killed X windows trying to install the ATI graphics drivers, becuse they don't support the 2.6.x kernal) so i'll probably revert back to core 1 so the graphics drivers will support it.(my goal is to be able to play UT2004)
