My experience is almost exactly opposite that of BruceP. I ordered a 400, folding keyboard, and screen protectors on 2/9. I was told then that the expected ship date was 2/24. That's what the "customize" page had said before I placed the order, so I wasn't surprised, just disappointed.

As of a few minutes ago, the "status" page continues to say that the order will ship "on or before 2/24," as it has since I placed the order. However, this morning I got email from Dell saying that they've "reviewed" my order and now expect to ship it "on or before 3/10."

While I understand BruceP's frustration at seeing his order slip one day at a time every day, my complaint is that they apparently expect me to believe that they woke up this morning and suddenly realized it would take two more weeks to complete my order. What's different about today from yesterday, or last week? There's a large difference between "we expect to ship it tomorrow" and "we expect to ship it in two weeks." There was some point in the last two weeks when it became apparent that 2/24 was not a realistic ship date for my order, and I have a hard time believing that that point was only today. Keeping the expected ship date as 2/24 on the status page all the way up to this morning gave me a misplaced sense of confidence that I would have the unit tomorrow (I ordered next-day shipping).

sounds similar

I don't think our stories sound so opposite. I hope your bumping won't go on as long as mine has. I have it on pretty good authority that the "estimated shipping date" on the web site is merely a buffer. In my case the date has been kept one week out. Your comments about the date change are exactly what I was saying two weeks ago. I was told categorically that the web site info (Order Status) is totally irrelevant for Axim purchases. The estimated shipping date is irrelevant, indeed the status (production pre-production etc) is irrelevant. The Axim is a different beast atogether.

I can't say I'm very knowledgeable but if I were to order now, I'd order the Axim with nothing else (except the warranty). Availability of everything must be assured before your order is complete and anything could be back ordered. But, to change any part of an order is to cancel the order and place again.

Since I wrote my earlier message, I've had email contact with "US_DHS_Notify", with rather puzzling results. Maybe someone here can help me figure out what they mean -- although their messages appear to be in English, they certainly didn't communicate much to me.

I replied to their notification of the delay by asking,

Quote:
After looking at your site, it appears that the item that is holding up my order is the Axim folding keyboard. Is it possible to split my order or to delete that item from my order and get the Axim itself sooner?
They responded,

Quote:
We are pleased to assist you with your inquiry. I have updated your account and consented to your order.
Uh, what? "Consented to" my order? I suggested two different possibilities for expediting the shipping of the Axim itself -- is this referring to either of those approaches? And if so, to what effect?

I wrote back,

Quote:
I'm sorry, I didn't understand your message completely. Could you be clearer about exactly what you have done with my order? Did you split the order so that the folding keyboard will come later than the rest of the order, or did you delete the folding keyboard from my order completely? And when should I expect the Axim 400 to ship, as a result of this change?
The equally cryptic reply:

Quote:
We have continued the order.
At that point, I gave up. The online status still says that the expected ship date is "on or before 2/24." I figure it will get here when it gets here. Happily the PPC I'm replacing is just flaky, not defunct, so I can probably nurse it along until whenever that might be. However, if anyone has any suggestions for what "consenting to" and "continuing" my order might mean in this context, I'd be interested. :crooked:

no splitting orders

wmm

I went through a similar "what if I delete the keyboard??" NOPE. What I was told is that you'd have to cancel the order with the keyboard and place another order without. This would put you at the end of the queue. Trouble is this implies that there is only one queue; I have a suspicion that there are many queues or perhaps none!
(North americans are so well behaved when it comes to "standing in lines" but in much of the rest of the world it's push as far to the front as possible from every direction! Seems that is closer to the Axim now!!
