I’m of on another trip tomorrow; my schedule gives me a free day in Seattle in March. Other than the Space needle and Frasier I know nothing about the place. So what are the must see things in Seattle?

Pike Street Market, Mt. Rainier (If the weather is clear it'll look like it's about a mile out of town!), Lake Washington. There used to be an underground there, too, but I don't know if it's still there or not.
Drive a bit down I-5 and look down on Boeing field. It's amazing to be that close and above an airport!
I love Seattle. I try to go there at least once or twice a year. Like the previous post said, the Public Market is definitely a good place to go. I haven't been to Mt. Rainier, but it's like 100 miles from Seattle, and the trails are for an experienced hiker. Olympic National Park is another great spot, but once again, it's quite a ways from the city and it's really a day trip in itself.
The Seattle Aquarium is also pretty neat. There's also the Under Ground Tour in Pioneer Square. About 100 years ago, in order to keep the city from being flooded, they raised the streets one story. So, a three story building became a 2 story building. There's a whole series of passages they'll take you through.
The space needle is neat, but I don't think it's worth the $11 ride up on the elevator. If you're going to be in the downtown area, you could find a good place to park, and walk to market, underground tour, and aquarium in one day.
Bring plenty of cash for parking...the garages downtown are like 2-4 dollars and hour.
As the others said, you GOTTA go to the Pike Place Market and watch the fish toss at the fish stand. The crier with the raspy voice stands out by the display stand hawking the day's fresh catches and when he sells one, he grabs it and TOSSES it to the guy behind the stand who catches it in the wrapping paper. The market is awesome. Also some really cool souvenir shops just across the street....don't forget to check out the shops underground too!!
And if you don't get a genuine Seattle Latte while you're there, your trip will be for naught!!!
Have a great time in that wonderful city!!

There ain't no place like this place anywhere near this place.
I live in Seattle and, depending on what you like to do, there is plenty to offer. March can be a bit on the wet side tho so be prepared. I agree Pike Place Market and the entire waterfront area is nice to visit. Mount Rainier is a great day trip if the weather is clear, otherwise I wouldn't bother. Alki Beach in West Seattle will offer some of the most breathtaking views of our city...day or night. Fabulous restaraunts can be found all over the city offering a variety of fare. Space Needle can be pricey but it will offer you a view you wouldn't otherwise see. You can drive over the 520 bridge across Lk. Washington towards the East, and if you look to the right you can see Bill Gates house (lol)! For some folks that is a big deal, but better if you can cruise by in a boat. If you like baseball, take a trip to Safeco Field downtown and take in one of the Mariner games. Ride the Monorail in downtown Seattle, visit Pioneer Square, ride a ferry boat to Bainbridge Island and back.
PS. learn the lingo before you head into a Starbucks store on every corner. Seattleites have their very own unique way of ordering a latte!!!

You did not warn him not to try and cross the 520 any time between 3:00pm and 7:00pm, shame on you. How many times have you been parked on that bridge watching the water and looking out over Hunts Point?
BTW, I will have a quad tall skinny two pump vanilla latte!
Wish I was not stuck over here on the east coast through grad. school.............................
Your right! I travel across 520 quite frequently but fortunately I usually manage to avoid it at rush hour, which now is anywhere from 2:45 - 7:00! But then again, if you are going to get stuck in traffic what a better place, huh? A view of Mt. Rainier, Lake Washington, Will's place......
How do you like all the snow on the East Coast? I wouldn't mind a bit of snow instead of the rain, although today is cool, crisp, clear & SUNNY!!!
BTW - You got your latte lingo down!!! I'm a basic Venti "skinny"...nothing fancy.

Thanks for the tips guys. I think I’ll be staying close to the downtown area as I have no intention of hiring a car to drive around a strange city. That’s too stressful a way to spend my annual day off :) So I think I’ll be going to Pike Place, Pioneer Square and probably the Space Needle and the laser show place.
As for the rain; I live part of my life in BC so I know the climate.
I have also discovered that the Nordic Heritage Museum has a special exhibit of early Norse artifacts found in North America. Early history is something I am very interested in so these artifacts are something I would love to see. It opens the day after I leave

If you are staying in Seattle a bit - I TOTALLY SUGGEST THE FOLLOWING :
1. Pack a Raincoat....
2. Rent a Car
3. Take rented car and drive north to Everett and catch the Muliteo<sp> Ferry and go to Whidbey Island.
4. Drive all the way up the Island to the Deception Pass Bridge, Look, Take a Picture, Spit off it, and go over to Anacortes and if the A&W place is still there - have a Rootbeer Float.
5. Drive to Burlington(I think) and get back on 5 south and go back to the ugly city.
SEATTLE PEOPLE - no offense - and if I misled any of my crude driving direction - CORRECT ME...it has been 10 years since I lived in Oak Harbor.

Kinda hard not to be offended by the 'ugly city' remark, but I will assume you would say that about any city-scape. I agree about all of the places you suggest - the environment is pretty amazing around there. (Now, if only he had time to make the drive down under the sound and out to Olympic National Park, then he would be in for a real treat - other than the blocks of clear cut scarring some of the hillsides out there) However, for Synth, I think his final decisions for places to visit in the city are pretty much perfect. If you have to pick a few places in the city Synth, you pretty much hit the good ones. If you make it to the waterfront - make sure you go to the 'ye old curiosity shop' and check out the freaky stuff they have in there - trinket/suviener hell, but they have some pretty cool 'pickled parts'
missc, the east coast pretty much blows this time of year. I am stuck in the sticks in upstate NY, worse than Ellensburg pretty much. We have had some ungodly amount of snow here BUT i am only 6 months away from finishing. Anyone hiring a PhD chemical engineering in Biotech back in Seattle?????

what type of eng. are you? traveling to Seattle for work?
I was a marine engineer, I now work offshore doing underwater survey and repair work on oil rigs and pipelines mostly; not a lot of that on the west coast. Most of my work is in the North Sea but I have been all over the world. My wife is Canadian and she wanted to live in BC, so my offshore trips just involve a bit more traveling these days mostly through Vancouver. This is the first time the flights took me through Seattle so I fixed myself a 1 day stopover.

lindsj -- I am sorry... the "ugly city" is not directed directly at Seattle, but at all big cities. I don't like the big city... I am a country boy I guess...hehe!
Made that post early in the am and you know... Hope I didn't seriously upset anyone.
