i was currently using a generic 2 way splitter to split my net cable between my cable modem and my tv tuner. i had to add an extra tv in te mix, so i bought a 4 way powered splitter with a 10db boost on it. you think this will be ok?

.
I've used a 3-way, unpowered splitter before with no problem. Before I got the 3-way, I used 2 2-ways, piggy backed adn it still worked OK.
Give it a try, and if it doesn't work, try a 4-way unpowered, it's possible the "boosting" from the "powered" might be injecting interference.
When I first went to Cable Internet my provider warned me that there"could be NO MORE than ONE split in the line between the House Connection and the router".........UNLESS you purchase OUR networking package........which I declined..$$$$$$$
So I climbed up in the attic in the middle of the summer in Houston, and made the requisite recabling changes.........awhile later I wanted some more set-top boxes in other rooms, the cable guy came out and promptly spliced into my Modem Line!!!!
I basically said WTF??!!......to which he replied.....it's all pretty much B$. They just want you to buy their "Home Networking Package", because.....Nothing ELSE will blah-blah-blah with their blah-blah-blah EXCEPT THEIR blah-blah-blah".
Since then I just keep adding connections until I see signal degradation..........which, by-the-way, has always shown up FIRST on the Digital Cable Box. It's never affected my Internet connection. ANd it's now, like, third or fourth in the connection series.

cable in to 2 way non powered splitter. one output to modem, the other to the 4way powered splitter. one of those outputs to my tuner, another to tv. that way only tv signals are boosted ;)
my sister lives in an apartment with only one cable outlet in the unit. we split it from their to go to the tv in the living room and tv in the bedroom. we then split it again in the living room for the cable modem and tv. none of those are powered and the cable modem works fine.
i doubt you need the signal booster unless your the wiring in the cable is bad. there is around 45 feet of cable from the outlet, through two splitters and then to the living room tv and the signal is great.
lol, we all have our stories about how the cable company tries to rat us out...and so do i...here it goes
i got analog cable for one room in the house, and used a splitter on the line that comes into the house so i could get basic channels in another room, i call (company will not be said) to get Digital Cable installed and they F@@@@@@ take out the splitter (which was no problem at the time, since rats ate the original line into the 2nd room) and when i wanted to get cable, it wouldnt work, and finally found out that the line wasn't even live, and they took the splitter...and then everything fell into place...and i just put in another splitter (which came in the self-install kit, lol) and...am never calling them again
Originally posted by MrKlaatu FYI: If you end up with a spare, unused, tap on a "Y" type splitter, be sure to cover it with a Terminating Resistor.
Very nice tip to share with everyone, MrKlaatu. Also, similar terminators can be picked up for Composite (RCA), Component, Audio, etc. cables if you have any additional "taps" on a splitter for these cables. They make a huge difference in most A/V setups.
