Question ebooks vs hardcopy

Hi all

I'm a major user of ebooks, and was just wondering what the general consensus was about reading on our beloved PDAs as opposed to carrying round those cumbersome book things :p

The only complain I have about eBooks on PDA is the small screen.... :(

Nothing beats sitting down in a comfy chair with a hot mug of tea opening up a hardcover book. That's after a busy day at work, but when I'm in line at the bank, or waiting for someone- taking out my Axim and reading a book is a great way to pass the time.

True. I do like sitting down and getting comfy with a book but the only time I get to read these days is on the train. Comfy is not an option:crooked:

While I still enjoy reading a hardcover book I find myself reading ebooks more and more. It is so easy to whip out the AXIM when I am in a short waiting period that I am reading more books now than I have in years. One other nice feature is I can read in bed without having a light on which means my other half gets a better night's sleep.

E-books are OK, but the processes are just different from reading a paper book. Speed of access is one. I grab a book & open it to my book marked page. In the same amount of time, I might get the reader open, but no way have I gotten to the page I was reading. The screen is small too. I can read two pages of a book in less time, with less effort than the equivalent number of screens on an e-book.

All that said, having a book available anywhere, including in the dark, is pretty cool. I basically read 2-3 paper books and 1-2 e-books at the same time.

:crooked: Most all eBook readers, MS Reader included, have a bookmark feature that let you jump right to the page you left off. And for me, the time it takes to get from turning the Axim on to my recent page is about 10-12 seconds...

Personally, I really enjoy laying in bed at night with the Axim (it's its own night light too!) and catching up on some reading. "Personally." <-- my feelings

I absolutely love ebooks. They are so much easier to read, more conveinent for a busy lifestyle, much easier to organize.

Although there might be something to going to a Borders and trying to pick up women over books and coffee :D .... for content of reading, I like ebooks better. I find I focus better on ebook pages on the axim better than paper pages.

I love the ebooks and would read more of them but I have problems with my "scrolling". Is this the dreaded "d-pad" dilemma alot of people have been having? Does the patch fix this?:D

missc, use the toggle on the side of the Ax to page up and down. Also, set the repeat and time to first repeat to the longest and slowest to slow down the tendency to do multiple pages.

Toydriver,

Do you mean 'your better half gets a other night's sleep?'

I am hooked on a speedreader program I purchased from Mobile Dynamo (called Speadreader Plus). Can use it to read anything you can cut and paste. Since I got SRP, microsoft e-books haven't been all that, but there is something about a nice hardcopy (with adequate lighting, that is).

As long as published insist on pricing current eBooks at the hardcover list price, I will not buy any. However, the library system here in NE Ohio is about to implement an eBook lending capability. At that point, I will become an avid eBook reader on my notebook and my Axim.

Slightly off the subject, listening to audibooks is one of the primary uses for my Axim. My wife and I subscribe to Audible.Com, and between us, get 4 audio books a month (subscription price equates to apprx. $10 per book). Sometimes this is the only copy of a book that we buy, but more often, we buy the audiobook as a alternate way to enjoy a favorite author.
