When I moved into my first apartment (no pets allowed).......I got two goldfish and named them Cat & Ferret.
When I eventually moved into a pets allowed environment I got a cat and named her Goldfish. I've had many cats both during her reign and (sadly) after, but she was the best. We were muy simpatico.......if I had a stomach ache, she'd gently lay down on it and purr like a motel-magic fingers bed. She knew my schedule better than any PDA, too and if I over slept she'd climb up on top of me again and slowly stretch out one paw and rest it on my chin until I woke up (this also worked for empty food bowls). She could also open (even) child-locked cupboards, and many's the time I'd find her pawing one open with a circle of the other cats around her, just waiting fo the grand opening. She was simply an amazing cat.
Even in her toothless old age she ran rampant on any other cats in the house. Not being mean, just keeping them in line. Toothless, maybe.......but the claws worked just fine, thank you.
I eventually also got a ferret, but she came prenamed Nicole. And a fine escape artist and thief she was, too. Never found a cage she couldn't escape from, eventually leading to her running away, never to be seen again. When we moved after her great escape, we found her stash.........and all the little things that had disappeared in the year and a half we had her!
Currently in a pet free zone, but soon to change. And the hunt will be on for another Goldfish in my life.

I always loved dogs, but hadn't had once since I was a little kid. (My mother didn't think she liked pets--more on that later.)
And, while I had a beagle as a boy, my best friend had a Golden during my teen years. She(the Golden, Sam) was a GREAT dog. Or, more accurately, a great throw rug. Just loved to lay on the floor and get real close to people.
Petless for years until I began to date my (now) wife. She had two cats: T.C. and Mandy. Didn't care much for Mandy. Too much like a cat. Aloof and independent. Everything was on her terms. But, T.C. was/is COOL. (He's a tuxedo cat with a bumble-bee ring on his tail.)
He was like a dog. He loved to be near people, to play, and to be in the middle of the action. I used to drive up to my wife's house and he'd run up to greet me as I opened my car door. We bonded!
Somehow, I convinced her family to let me have T.C. And, we've been together ever since about 1996. I think he was the dowry for my eventual wife. No complaints.
A few years ago we decided to get a companion for T.C. We went to our local shelter and found a tiny little Tiger cat and I picked her. She's Bella and she's still tiny. It took T.C. about 6 months to get over the shock, but since that time they've gotten along incredibly well. They play and chase each other whenever they aren't sleeping on top of one another. She's really sweet and a little shy, but T.C. has tought her well, and she's becoming more and more people-friendly.
Then, my wife and I got married, bought a house, and got the best wedding present ever: my best friend (who used to have Sam, the Golden), gave us money to use to buy a Golden puppy! We found Emory and he's been with us for almost three years.
The cats love him and he loves them--although he sometimes loves them a little more OVERWHELMINGLY than they can take. But, they all seem to get along really well.
Now the true test is coming...
My wife and I are having a little girl in about a month. Our first child.
This ought to be interesting. Of course, she'll probably be a big animal lover like her folks.
Unfortunately, I was never allowed to have any furried friends nor any kind of pet as a child. However, I do have a pet story to tell.
Last year at around this time, my colleague and I were teaching a group of kindergarten kids about fish, oceans, etc. We decided it would be great if we could get two goldfish for the class. Of course the kids loved them, but so did I! :p
One morning I came in and found one of them belly up! *gasp* I was pretty devastated, and from then on, I took home the remaining fish every weekend to ensure its safety. Well, the school year came to a close and I took the fish home for the summer. I grew to love and care for that fish even more (and so did my 2 year old nephew) and by the time September rolled along, I decided to "keep" the fish at home. :hide:
To this day, almost a year later, the fish is still doing great but my only problem is that I have not yet named him/her. (How can you tell?) I've attached a pic in case anyone has any ideas.

Name or no name, dear Lovely Gigi..........he/she looks lonely. Look at those big puppydog eyes, those downturned lips..........is that a woebegone, wrinkled forehead I detect?.............. Are you feeling guilty yet?
Call this one Uno and the companion that I'm sure you will get, Dos.

MrK, right after the parting of Uno's soulmate, I went to the pet store in the hopes of acquiring Dos. Sadly, I was told that goldfish need lots of space and that if two of them were to share this bowl again, one of them would undoubtedly perish...
There is Quasi our Cockatiel, and Kiwi our Lovebird. There's also Flinch & Buzz, our two Finches. Quasi and Kiwi have quite the personalities. Quasi talks, and both birds just like to "hang", although they get edgy. Quasi and Kiwi alternate taking showers with me.
There is also Rey our Goldfish, and Cocoa our Guinea Pig.
Animal lover? No way. If it was up to me there wouldn't be any pets in the house.Animals belong outside.
Cats ....never I'd move out before there would ever be a cat in my house.
Dogs....we've had several before the best one being a german shepherd . But I really don't think they belong in a house. Dog hair on furniture and carpets makes me sick.
We've had several birds over the years including a couple cockatiels and a paraket that we still have.
My wife wanted an African Grey Parrot for years. So against my better judgment, and to shut her up for awhile, I bought her one last year. His or her (we have no idea if it's a M or F) name is Pal. Pal is really cool, he's just beginning to talk.
