I disagree. The "is" part of "as-is" depends on the seller's description. Clearly I can't inspect the object. If the seller is lying or even merely mistaken, "as-is" means nothing.
In other words, if the "is" ain't, then all bets are off.
eBay expects sellers to provide an accurate description, and "all sales final" and "as-is" don't protect the seller from misrepresentation.
All that said, it can still be a hassle if you buy a misrepresented item from a seller who maintains that "all sales are final."
I'd just as soon avoid the hassle.
I've been there before, having purchased a $100 item on eBay that the seller had lied about. He also said "all sales final." It took me months of working with eBay but I finally got my money back from the guy. I invested way more than $100 worth of my time and effort in order to do it, had meticulously documented my side of the case, but it still took me months. I'd never do it again, but this guy pissed me off and it became a matter of principle.
