Anyone who has seen (and I’m guessing most everyone HERE, HAS seen), a StarTrek Communicator/TriCorder….”Computer”….type device,
(and without divulging your age , unless you wish to):

When do you think something comparable might be available to the General Masses?


Minimum Criteria:

Code:

1) Thought/Voice/Phalanges (Stylus Optional) Interface. 2) Massive, “Universal” AND Instantly Available DataBase to EVERYONE, ie; FREE. 3) Pocketable, or less. 4) Near Indestructible. 5) FREE to the Masses (or at the minimum “affordable to the point of being so”). 6) NO National, Political, Religious or any other kind of Restrictions.

...............so, give me something "esoteric" to ponder while I'm trying to figure out my Vile Transfer Protocols.

Had you not included number 5 in your list I would have said 10 to 20 years. However, as profit is the motive for almost all manufacturing, especially something on this mass of a scale, I don't think this would ever be available for free.

There would be a charge for either the unit itself or the access fee to the database. Considering how many cell phone companies give you a free phone when you sign up for their service, a free unit with a pay service seems to be the more likely outcome.
