How can you receive junk email on an account that hasn't been used. Set up account on Hotmail ready for when I got a PDA but haven't used it (It was to be used only by family on my Axim) I have not given it to anyone yet. Checked into my account to keep it active and what do I find but 10 junk emails.

It's also possible that your address belonged to someone else before, and you are getting THAT person's spam. This is a very real possibility. Years ago, I had added a friend mine's hotmail address on my MSN buddy list. I had never IM'd with her so I was very surprised when one day a few months ago she signed on. Well, it turned out that the person who signed on was NOT my friend but someone who had the same hotmail account!!! I told my friend about this and what had happened was that she lost her account due to leaving it idle for too long. Someone else had assumed her user ID!!!

i used to get about 90 per day... but them i set the filters on my outlook express and got rid of most of it I HATE SPAM!!!

But if (and it is unlikely considering name combination) my address did once belong to someone else, surely I would receive some of their personal mail and not just junk. The only way is, that my name was leaked from Microsoft. It's a bit like a glazier offering to repair windows whilst breaking them himself, the night before (and no pun was intended) If I had used my account, I could understand receiving emails but this.........

Hotmail sucks for that. I used mine for such a long time with nothing. Then I did nothing differant and I was blasted with crap. Tons of messages everyday. Even got a new account and the same thing happened. Try Yahoo, it's great, that's what I use now for my general internet communication. They also have a beefier spam guard than Hotmail. Try it. I only get email that is meant for me.
