Sales tax in my state is 5%. Would that definately change my mind? Probably not. I'm more concerned about sites that try to hide exhorbanent shipping charges until after you give your credit card number. What do you think those kinds of vendors will do with your email address, not to mention credit card number?
There are times when "touchy feeley" really helps me make a decision. I'm very happy I bought the Ax. But after I bought it, I saw the small Compaq. If I had seen the Compaq first, I would have had a lot of second thoughts. Of course, the two are completely different machines, but for me the advantages of small size are almost as good as the advantages of expandability.
Also, it's often easier to return things to physical stores. I lost over $50 on bad purchase at Amazon. It's hard to argue when you can't even talk to a human on the phone.
The big pb. with brick & motor is the lousy selection. I went into a Circuit City and saw one SD card, which was 32K. Have you ever tried to look for a case, or charger, or anything else that is PPC specific? Even the most popular PPCs can cause to to sort through a pile of stuff, and you always end up with a pretty small selection after you remove all the options that don't work with your unit.
Overall, I don't think 5% is not nearly as important as these other issues.
