Is this a joke?
Microsoft: Europe “iPod killer” debut in 2H 2004
Microsoft said the Creative devices will be available in Sweden, the United Kingdom and Denmark first, retailing for between 550 euros and 599 euros ($678.50-$738.90) and 399 pounds and 449 pounds ($724-$814.70).
The product will be available in Germany, France, Italy and Spain to follow, but also by year-end, Microsoft said.
Price details and retail launch dates were not available for the iRiver device.
FATTER THAN THE IPOD
The Creative players will be sold with 20 gigabytes or 40 gigabytes of storage capacity, the latter would provide 175 hours of video playback or 10,000 songs, Microsoft said.
The devices play MP3 files as well as audio and video content recorded in Microsoft’s digital format. The devices run on the Windows CE operating system. …
The Creative player weighs in at 330 grams (11.5 ounces) — roughly three times as thick as an iPod and roughly twice as long to accommodate its television-quality colour screen. It has a USB port and comes with audio and video outputs cable to play media on a television or stereo hi-fi.
So it costs 50% to 100% more than the iPod, is 2 to 3 times larger physically but doesn’t have any more space. How is this a threat? Seems more like an albatross.
so it runs PocketPC, is this a joke???

its really not that big considering it is 20 to 40 gb and it can play videos, i think it is an awsome alternative to something like a music only ipod or Dell DJ
i did see on Microsofts website that it isnt just pocket pc, it is a special new OS that has a XP Media Center Edition feel with not a full xp OS
That's one thing that gets me about ipods and other mp3 players that can hold like 10,000 songs. I don't even have 100 songs on my computer, so what's the point of having 10,000?!
I agree, I only have about 500 megabytes of music on my computer, although I want more of it. I'm just a picky music listener. I'd want a huge media player for the video playing function, I'd use it for both but my videos would take up the most space, say 2GB for Music and 18GB for video and stuff. They have 60 GB Mp3 players now, that is bigger than my computers hard drive (40GB)
exactly, if you notice some of the other versions of ce can be quite simple and have nothing in them, i know that the dreamcast by sega ran windows ce and that didnt look like ppc Did it :crooked:
I don't see a USB port on it. Too bad. It would be nice to be able to transfer files directly from the Axim or from my digital camera via a Card Reader or the camera's USB cable.
