What exactly are the pros and cons of a VGA screen? I'm slightly new at this so if I get something wrong feel free to correct me!

Pros
Higher Resolution (640X480)
More Colors on screen at once
Larger Screen?

Cons
Eats up battery life
Expensive
Larger screen?

At first I just put larger screen under pros until it hit me, people want their PDAs/Axims to be small! (well... I do anyway ;)).
I mean a 4 inch screen would be nice, but would that bet getting too big? I mean wouldnt that increase the total size of the handheld?

Well, from my understandning, the higher resolution shouldn't eat up battery life too much. The thing on a pda that takes up the most battery life is the backlight. Sure, increasing the screen size to 4" will mean needing slightly more backlighting, but really it isn't much. It is when you also start adding wi-fi and bluetooth with it that it starts to really eat up battery life.
