Active sync stops responding all the time

Active Sync Screen O' Death?

I have had my X30/312 for a little over a week now. After getting used to it, I installed active sync on my computer. I then tried to sync my X30 files to my computer. The first time it worked, but most of the time the X30 says that Active Sync is not responding. It gives me the choice to ignore or to stop it. I have rebooted my machine and tried. I have done a hard reset with the X30 and tried too. I get the same error all the time.

My system:
Win2k SP3
Active Sync and Outlook that came with the X30.
No viruses, no spyware etc. (Never been on the net with this machine, no downloaded software installed etc. (Norton virus updates and Adaware updates are the only downloaded installs. I do a weekly virus check and a spyware check since I am on a network with my net machine.)

Here is how I try to sync the thing.

Boot my computer.
I have Active Sync start with windows (I tried doing syncing by manually starting Active Sync too)
Turn on the X30. (Tried it by plugging before starting it up too.)
Plug the X30 into my computer. Computer beeps when it recognizes the X30.
I wait until the X30 says Active Sync is not responding. It wont sync more then it will.
Nothing happens, no checks no syncing nothing! Just a Active Sync Screen O’ Death! :exc:

I had those same problems. I couldn't syns or wifi.

I hard reset and for some reason the Odyssey Client is not running by default anymore and there is NO way I am turning it on.

Sure enough I can connect to Sync and WiFi now. Wish I could help.

Just a tip.. if you are using Linksys router and choose static IP you have to enter the DNS info (you can find it on the status page).

I am not using the WiFi since I do not have it in my network. I can only use the USB. I am wondering if I have a bad X30.

I wonder what Dell's return/exchange policy is reugarding software issues. I can only imagine it is the chip since it is all on the rom...

Does Dell Employees ever answer these questions, or should I call them?

Thanks!

Have you tried a hard reset to set it back to original settings. It should Active Sync with default settings. If it does not then I would call Tech Support.

I did have this problem but it cleared up after a few soft resets, and the problem didn't start until I installed some software.

Did you install Active Sync before connecting device as instructed?

Have you tried re-installing Active Sync on your PC in case it is corrupt?

Are other USB devices working on that port?

Yes, I installed OUtlook 2002 first. Then I installed Active Sync.
I rebooted just to be safe.

I have reinstalled Active Sync on my computer just to be sure.

Yes I use that port for my scanner, and my Wacom tablet. I plugged them in right after an Active Sync failure and they worked fine in the same port.

Thanks for the quick replys!:D

Ok, now I am worried.

Today I went to turn on my X30/312 and it would not turn on. At first I thought I might have left it on all night so I plugged it into my car charger. I then tried to turn it on. NOTHING. It is dead as a doornail. After doing a reset it finaly came on very slowly... I think I need to send it in. Anyone from Dell reading this thread????

Anyone else have this prob????
