Define "Pride" - What Are You Proud Of?

Pride can mean so many things to so many people. From being proud of your children to taking pride in your work. Each persons list of what they are proud of could range from one thing to dozens or more. I am most proud of my kids.

For this discussion, pick one thing you are proud of, and not neessarily the thing you take most pride in.

My "pride" discussion has to do with my car. As I pulled into my driveway tonight, a song just started playing on the MP3 CD I have in my car. The song is Swamped by Lacuna Coil (for those interested). I parked in my driveway, turned up the volume (quite loud I must say), and turned on the Street Glow neons inside of my Town Car. It was 5 minutes of bliss, and I also felt pride in my accomplishments of dressing up the interior of my car. My audio system packs a wallop - bass pounding through the seat vibrating my back, clear crisp highs, and no distortion at almost deafening volumes. That, coupled with the lights, just made me feel proud of it all. I had someone (Tweeter Etc) install the audio system. But it was me who extensively researched what would work best in my car. I picked out all of my components, right down to the high-grade wire. I installed all of the neons myself, as well as the Dynamat in the trunk.

It was all well worth it. I love my music, and my car provides an incredible listening experience (along with the night time light show).

I'm proud of it.

I am proud of my son. After mountain climbimg for over 8 years, he told me "Dad i still have fear being up there even if the challenges are less apealing. This fear helps me to be safe." During his eight years of being a climber he reach the top of the highest peaks in America.

One of my 'pride & joys' is my car as well, although I'm not into the 'blow my eardrums' thing.

She's an old one now ('90 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD). I raced her in Solo I and Solo II (Autocross) series from '91 - '97. I was doing the 'tuning' thing years before all these new Tuners and their gear hit the scene. There were very few parts available so I had to make them myself, get them custom built, or order full race-spec parts from the few suppliers that produced them.

It was a fun era as we had to engineer our own parts. You had to learn and understand the physics so that you could have parts built that would do the job. My suspension has been rebuilt right from the sub-frames out. The only way I could make it better would be to go full coil-over ($$$$). The motor has been well worked, but I've left the short-block alone for now for reliability.

Nowadays I see all sorts of kids running around with their 'tuner specials'. Some are just junk as the kids are throwing on parts without any understanding of what's needed...they just go by the hype of the builders. There are some truly fast ones out there but they generally have reliability issues. And very few even try to keep up in the corners... ;)

I'm proud of my ride...she's still going strong even with 273K KM (170k+ miles). Her and her greying, 40 yr old driver will still smoke most of the kiddies on a Saturday night cruise. :D

Chris...

Pride I do believe is a non tangible thing. I mean you can be proud of your house, proud of your car, but pride to me means something bigger than a material thing. First of all I have pride in being Catholic. Now I do not want to argue religion, and have no arguements about other religions, but it is something I am proud about. I also have pride in the fact that I have the ability to send my kids to private schools, (yes Catholic Schools). I have pride in the fact that I have been married for 20 years to a fantastic woman. I have pride in my 2 kids. I guess I just have a little pride in the life I have helped create for my family.
