Your Favorite Genre Of Music (I Hate Genres In Music), And Bands You Like

Typically I do not like the use of the word genre as it applies to music. It can pigeon hole a band into a corner, and mask a bands talent by measuring the music against "stretched" standards. Metallica has been taking heat since their "Load" album, and have been said to have "sold out". Who is the judge of a band "selling-out"? Do fans start the media onslaught of selling-out by their reaction to an album, or does the media stamp this label on them?

Enough of that..what is your favorite style of music? Name a few of your favorite bands.

I am a metalhead (I hate stereotyping). I am a 44-year old lover of the most underground of metal. My absolute favorite band is Opeth (from Stockholm, Sweden). It took 20 years for a band to displace Led Zeppelin as my all-time favorite band, and 20 years to replace Kashmir (by Zep)with The Drapery Falls (by Opeth) as my all-time favorite song.. I also love Grip, Inc., Dimmu Borgir, Slayer, The Tea Party (a less than metal band from Canada, but amazing to me), and Flotsam & Jetsam, just to name a few. I listen to musci all day, and usually it's metal.

So, what about you?

To be honest, I like anything that is good. I don't really have a preference to any one "genre". It also depends on my mood.

My favorite "genre" is anything rap/hip-hop. That stuff just get's me pumped!!! I love it!! My all-time favorite rapper is Paul Wall (He's underground, livin in Texas, he wit the Swishahouse, along with Mike Jones, Chamillionaire, Big Moe, ect. Lil Flip used to be with them, then he got big and went to a different record company) Anyways, I also like some rock (not metal though). Has anyone else heard of da Swishahouse and folks from there? Just curious to see...

I'm a SKA man myself, SKAcore to be exact. I also dig punk/classic rock etc.

Most of the music i listen to is Christian SKA (supertones, FIF, insyderz, etc) but any SKA is good!

Anything created before Disco works for me. 1975 was the year the music died.

I guess my favorite genre would have to be Hip-Hop which actually encompasses a lot of different genres. So basically if it's got a good beat and you can dance to it I'm all ears. Just for listening though I like what the record companies are calling Modern Jazz, Here's a link to some that will open in Windows Media Player on your Ax or your PC. I love Metallica and put up with a few of the 90's Alternative band's like Smashing Pumpkins, Offspring & Dave Matthews.

I also love most Classic Rock, pretty much anything from the 60's and early 70's. Classical violin, New Age, Folk and Bluegrass. That's all I can think of right off the top of my head, may edit later!

It all depends on the mood! DMB, skynyrd, outkast, linkin park... You have to remember that at one time I'll hate the band and the next minute I'll love them

I like new age, trance, trip-hop, ethereal, electronica, etc. Too many Genre names to list them all. Anything except Country and Rap....except Eminem....I think he's a cutey.

I like almost everything, but my favorite is prog (progressive rock). Yes, King Crimson, Genesis, Rush, Dream Theater, Spock's Beard, Flower Kings, Porcupine Tree, to name a few. If you're into any of these bands, make sure to check out some of the side project/collaboration bands as well - Transatlantic, Liquid Tension Experiment, Platypus, Explorer's Club, etc.

Okay, that's an exception. Love those guys, and well Boston's 1st album was cool. Okay I like New Wave too, The Cars and B52's are some favorites.
