Yahoo POP mail

I don't know if you guys already know about this, but I found a way cool free program that allows you to set up yahoo pop mail on your desk top pc e-mail client...(i.e...outlook, outlook express, incredimail, etc.). It's called YPOPs! and here is the link and description from the site.

http://yahoopops.sourceforge.net/

YPOPs! is an application that provides POP3 access to Yahoo! Mail. It is available o*n the Windows, Linux, Solaris and Mac platforms.

Yahoo! Mail disabled free access to its POP3 service o*n 24th April, 2002. This application emulates a POP3 server and enables popular email clients like Outlook, Netscape, Eudora, Mozilla, etc., to download email from Yahoo! accounts. We do not go against the license agreements of Yahoo! Mail. This application is completely legitimate and well within the realms of legal software.

How do we do it you ask? Well, this application is more like a gateway. It provides a POP3 server interface at o*ne end to talk to email clients and an HTTP client (browser) interface at the other which allows it to talk to Yahoo!

Peace,

Rob Bond

Actually, I popped (no pun intended) for the Premium service, not only for the POP3 access, but for the removal of all those ads and the 2 GB storage. I'm glad I did, and will I renew it next year, we'll see how much I use it :)

You can configure it to not leave the messages on the Yahoo server when you receive it on your computer. Just right click on the tray icon and click configure and it's pretty self explanitory from there.

The YahooPops tray icon resides in the system tray. You have to configure YahooPops to open at startup. Here is the link for intsructions on configuring YahooPops for any given mail client.

By the way I started with YahooPops version 0.5 and never had a problem with it. I installed version 0.6 and it would not delete the mails off my Yahoo server. I went back to version 0.5 and everything is fine. So, for now I suggest everyone stick with version 0.5. Here is a link for version 0.5.
