Palm OS / Sync (I forgot how to use Palm)!

Hi,

I have a friend of mine that has a Palm PDA. She basically only uses it to sync & carry her calendar, contacts, & email. She uses the palm desktop software. She has two identites (one with her madien name & one with her married name). We want to combine all that info into one name (one of the two names).

How do i select between the two identies. It has been about 5 years since I made the Palm to Axim swap & I completely forgot how to change identites on the PDA itself. I can swap Identities in the palm software but when I try to sync, it only sticks with one of them ( the other never gets synced on the device).

How do I fix this & if this isnt the right forum, could someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
Rich

The sync program will only work with the identity of the Palm device. If you have items you want synced under that device that belong to the other identity you need to go in to the sync program and choose the items you want synced. I'm just going off of assumptions here. Let's say you have calenday synced to married name and tasks in maiden name. You would go into the married name sync option and check off that you want the tasks synced to this identity. If its a program or something like that that you want brought over you would just reinstall that program by double clicking on the program icon and make sure you have the item in the sync program for the next time you sync.
That should do it.

Ok, so syncing is based on the device instead of the palm desktop software, that makes sense. How do I go about changing the identity on the palm device itself from one Identity to another? Or how do I delete an identity (hard reset)?

It's been a couple years since I did Palm stuff, so my memory is rusty too.

You should be able to go into the old identity in Palm Desktop and Export the various files (Addresses, To Do, etc) to some file like Temp, and then Import them into the chosen identity.

Ok i think I got it for you. Syncing is based on the device and you choose which devise in the sync program on your desktop. If you need to change the device name, you would do a hard reset on the device. That would probably be the best anyway to give it a fresh start. After you do a hard reset, connect and sync. You should get a pop-up to ask you to identify the handheld. Put in the name you want. From that point on you will be able to identfy that hendheld from the sync software on your desktop. Now reload applications.

Sorry it took a bit to get back to you.

Good luck. If you find out differently, come back here and post your results. In fact, post your results anyway. :approve:
