New monitor help!
Today my monitor burnt up... literally...(smelled like a cap gun). So if anyone has links to cheap monitors, preferably
flat panels that would be great.

Indeed...just check out newegg, their prices are so great. Or just check the fry's ads for a cheap monitor, though I really wouldn't recommend getting some no name POS that's just going to burn up like your last one.

I'd go for the one Grentz pointed out it looks good. We just got a 17 inch for 35 bucks (not at a store) but it's only CRT --- Not that I don't like CRT, It does have it's advantages.

I'm going to see if my parents will buy me one by saying i need one for school. And that i need a flat panel lcd and not some cheap crt for 99$ because its better for your eyes or something. (Don't even know if thats true, just thought it would make a nice excuse)

it is true, crts are harder on your eyes than lcds are
if you ever have to look at a crt for a LONG time, then look at an lcd, you will notice a huge difference

Are dead pixels common? That would suck to have just like 2 dead pixels in the middle of the screen and you can't return it...

Grentz... Don't just look at newegg and link to the cheapest one there... Look at the specs... that one has nasty 25ms refresh..
I would get this one NQA (no questions asked)
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...198-001&depa=1
500:1 contrast, 16ms response, great viewing angles, 1280x1024 res... and the bezel doesn't look half bad either.

If you're looking for an LCD display, you really ought to just spend the extra couple of dollars and get one of these:

:)

Couple extra? Are you smoking something dude? Don't turn this thread into a joke :\
Even the smallest one of those monitors is 4.5 X more expensive than one of these 280 dollar midrange LCD's... Plus it has hardly a better resolution, lower contrast ratio... Did I mention the price yet?
