Microsoft Anti-Spyware beta!

I was wondering if anyone had tried the new anti-spyware app from microsoft which can currently be found on windows.com in the download section. I am running it now, and it seems to be good. It has some interesting features such as an anti-spyware network. I would check it out if i were you.

ya, i've been away for some tyme, and i even sold my axim, but i pop in from tyme to tyme to read up and see what is going on. I'll prolly post more.

Also, this spyware app has the ability to remove browser hijacks in all respects, and even can block programs from adding context menus. Very nice, and I personally think MS did the right thing by making it free to the people!

From what I have read, MS is going to make the spyware program free only till July 31. After that it is going to be a paid program.

Here is the quote from Rich Kaplan, vice president for Microsoft's security business and technology unit.

Quote:
Kaplan said the free version of Microsoft's new spyware-removal software will expire July 31 and pricing for future versions is still undecided.

That i did not know. I guess we will see when it happens. It should be free and all, perhaps integrated into the security center in XP or something. It picked up over a dozen things that spybot/ad-aware missed, so i would like to keep using it...

Well, not impressed thus far :) I do understand that this is early betaware, and whenever I launch the app, it sets off another apps installer file, and I have to click cancel 3 times in order to kill the installer. This repeats itself every time I click an option within AS. I'm going to wait a release or 2 before installing it again, I'm sure they'll get the bugs worked out. Can't comment on the strength of the scanning engine as I haven't been able to scan yet. The best scanner I've used thus far is eTrust Pest Patrol. Extremely fast, simple, and thorugh.

Regarding the pricing, I read that MS is still undecided as to whether they will charge for this app. We'll have to wait and see.

I know that my version expires in 206 days, and it found something that spybot and adaware didnt...but i have yet to finish my adaware scan to see if it installed any of its own spyware/adware on my computer, like so many other people do (and is the style of windows).

Same here. There were three results that I was not aware of.

I also like the idea that sharing results with them allows them to continualy update the software to find more recent spyware tricks.

this isnt anything by MS.... it is exactly this software http://www.giantcompany.com/p_antiSpyware.htm

i have been using it for a year or so and it works great

it seems that MS aquired the Giant company becuase giant is the best in spyware :approve:

giant detects EVERYTHING spybot, adaware, xoftspy, and others detect plus a ton more

the blockers also work GREAT, i barely get any spyware

the network thing they are talking about (spynet) works great too

updates are frequent and like i said, the internal shields work great at blocking spyware...better than anything else i have tested

definently get this program :)

Giant is the best spyware program out there...kudos to MS for being smart enough to snag them, and especially for providing it free. I am almost anal retentive in my scanning and it still found 3 things that I was not made aware of using other programs.
