Decent VB.NET books

I'm still kind of a beginner myself, but I found these books very helpful.

"Beginning VB.NET 2003" by Willis, Crossland, and Blair
Published by Wrox Press
ISBN#: 0-7645-5658-4

This is a good book to get up to speed on VB.NET whether you used VB6 or not, though it is targetted more for the desktop .NET environment.

".NET Compact Framework Programming with Visual Basic .NET" by Yao and Durant
Published by Addison Wesley
ISBN#: 0-321-17404-6

IMO, this is an awesome book for the .NET Compact Framework, and although I am not all the way through it yet, there is a whole section on graphics.

I can't really say where you might find good books about PocketPC audio, since most of my work is targetting database development, but since you said you were a beginner, I might start with these.

Hope that helps.

If you buy only one book, get "Programming Microsoft Visual BASIC .NET". It's part of the Core Reference, and written by Francesco Balena. It is a massive book, and covers almost all topics. It is very well written ean easy to understand, with great examples. This was one of the first .net books I picked up, and it is still the book I turn to the most when I need to look something up.

Oooh, be careful here. If you are talking about programming for the Pocket PC using Visual Basic.net then you better get a book that is tailored to the "Compact Framework". Because, believe me, you will be so pissed off about how many simple functions are missing from the compact framework that the big brother has access to. I have wasted so much time typing a simple command that works in the normal VB.net but is unsupported when programming for my PPC. Then, you are left to search all over the Internet trying to find a solution. You'll quickly find that MOST Web pages are answering your question with the full VB.net commands, and not the one that works on your PPC.

Well, good luck and hope you find the answers.

Munk is right, there's alot missing and usually it's what you need. The main problem with ppc programming books is they assume you already know how to program. So here are some online resources you can use.

Start with the quickstarts http://samples.gotdotnet.com/quickstart/ for information on .net programming in general.

If you already feel comfortable with vb.net then move onto the CF quickstarts http://samples.gotdotnet.com/quickst...pactFramework/

Don't forget that if there is too much missing from the CF Framework, you can always use the Open .NET Compact Framework. It's an open source replacement, and has a LOT of the missing features of the Microsoft Framework implemented.
