However, i also dont think that we should not have invaded in the first place. Basically, based on the intellegance that we had from the CIA, MI5, and Russia, we decided that Iraq had WMD's. Need i remind you that just about the entire world believed the same thing at the time, including france, and just about every other nation that thinks we lied now. So, Bush went to the UN, and for a few monthes the UN sent useless weapons inspectors in. For all we know, in that time period, Sadaam was moving the weapons that he had out of the country. It took until April for the US to finally take it on ourselves to go be the weapons inspectors. What i think we should have done is as follows: Kick in the door, search for WMD's. By the time we realize they are not there, we leave. Apparently having a dictator worked for them for long enough, let them get themselves another one. I think that the "nation building" that went on was compeletely the wrong idea. The only purpose of the government is to protect the country, and nation building does not do that. As the government is accountable to the people and nation building does not benefit the people, it was constitutionally wrong. However, the original invasion was not constitutionally wrong, and we believed that there was an immenant danger to our country. Once we realized there were not, it was no longer our responsability to do anything there. Along thes same lines, i dont see why the US continues to host and fund the UN, when it is a useless little clique of countries who never get anything done...I think that it does nothing for our national security and stability, so let europe have it.

This isn't connected to anyone's post.

If you want to get really depressed about the state of our world - go spend a couple of days (preferably -20 C) in Aushwicz!

Things haven't moved on much!

Last time I took a 'guide' - some Jewish geezer who'd spent a few years there with his deceased bro.

His bro furthered the cause of medicine :hide:

When the Ruskies 'liberated' the place, they turned it's asset right back to what it'd been.

Isn't life bueatiful :)

Cheers

HardOnReset :approve:

P.S. I have no illusions about me - I wouldn't have survived 1 week!

I agree with this having gone there 18 years ago - it is something that will live with me for the rest of my life - especially as my wifes grandparents were both exterminated there!.

I didn't agree with the reasons or way we went into Iraq - BUT - our troops and the american ones have my full support ( I have nephews there ) whilst they are there - they have a hard job to do and are doing there best to do it!

The war was badly managed from the ofset - punching through to areas without securing you flank, etc.

The complaints about america in WWII are not in my views justified - I'd like to think that america was planning to come into the war eventually (just as they did!)
BUT I must admit that I do get very p**sed off with the rantings about the amount of american lives lost - yes they lost more men out of all the allies but if you work thie number of men who died for each nationality against that nations population then they average out about the same.
I feel that just pointing out numbers is demeaning to the lives of the allies that died delaying the nazi's enabling the american nation to build up its armoury so that it was ready to join the war.

please don't take this wrong I am extremely grateful that america joined in WWII and I realise that they were supplying us weapons before they joined in with manpower - this is why I realise that it was obvious that they would join in at some point - you only have to look at the weapons build up they were doing before they joined - pearl harbour just brought them into it slightly earlier than they would have done.

Remember - one life lost is as terrible a situation as one million lifes lost - anyone who doesn't accept this fact is demeaning the lives of that one individual.
And arguing about those lives lost during war time is disrespectful of the brave soldiers that gave their lives for their nation.

We can debate the rights and wrongs of this war BUT don't start generalising about nations - complain about the leaders of those nations and their decisions but praise all our brave soldiers who are doing their jobs - they need the support of us all.

coming down off my :soap:
If the thread creator is happy his country is leaving then thats his viewpoint and whatever you say to him he's made it clear he's not going to change it.
My opinion is that once you start something you believe is justified then you have to finish it whatever the cost if it. And whatever you or I may thing of it Bush and Blair obviously believe they were correct in doing what they did - its now up to those of us in their countries to support them to this end.

Wait just a minute, Hendrixius... Do you have any idea how unstable Iraq is right now? Even without Saddam, there are several militant groups making attempts to control the country. Sure, all everyone sees in the media is the US at war with these groups, but do you really believe that if everyone pulls out that the militants will just let the elections go on, and leave the innocent Iraqi population alone? Of course not, with no opposition in place the militants will just stand up and sieze power over Iraq and then it will be yet another dictatorial regime in place where Saddam's once stood.
