So far...no good

I had heard about problems with Dell shipping, but I really wanted the Axim 50, so I began my journey, navigating my way through the phone tree. Even my salesman, Sloane, let me know he's heard Hoffa might be buried there.

I made my purchase, carefully giving my billing address (a PO Box) and shipping address (my home.) Of course, they attempted to ship to the PO Box.

First, I got a call from DHL, telling me they needed something other than a PO Box for the first package, a backup battery from Dell. DHL delivered it to the wrong building on my military base and someone, I don't know their name, signed for it. Still waiting for that package.

The Axim delivery is even more complicated. Dell notified me via email the package was shipped on the 17th. I got a notice from UPS the package was shipped to the PO Box. I contacted UPS, who told me to call Dell because they have no record of shipment. (The lady at UPS said she's also waiting for a Dell product and that they're notorious for saying an item is shipped, when it has not.)

Of course, I spent an hour going through Dell's phone tree, listening to computer voices telling me the item had been shipped. Finally, I called customer support and spoke to a nice lady in BANGALORE, INDIA, who looked up my order and informed me she would cancel the original order and overnight a new one. You betcha. I had hoped to get the Axim before I travelled to Bangalore, India.

In the Air Force, we learn that making a good product is important, but if we can't put it on the target, it's worthless. What say you, Dell?

So far...no good. Aximo

Welcome to the wacky world of Dell shipping. A couple of months ago, I ordered 2 items and asked to have them shipped to my office address. The two items shipped separately, each containing a hybrid address of my home and office. One showed up at my office and the other showed up at home. It appeared that UPS was also confused!

I usually have items delivered at the school where I work, so SOMEONE can sign for them. It makes me really upset when I forget to do this, and something comes for me and it is taken away because someone isn't home...it's my own fault for forgetting...

Anyway...with my desktop system (my 3rd of 4 total purchases with Dell), I forgot to tell Dell to ship to my school instead of my home, and there is nowhere online where you can change that once it's in the computer.

Well, this is one of those rare cases where things worked out. I e-mailed customer service, they were able to change the shipping address, and it all came to where I wanted it to!

Thankfully, I also know the UPS driver and the USPS carrier, and both of them will usually realize a package is for me and bring it to the school office anyway...which is a real lifesaver. I think in the long run, they don't like having to bring packages back to the home office, either. (by the way, the return package situation happens with FedEx and other delivery people whom I don't know)
